More cunning than a snake in the bush...Snake Dog India Pale Ale is a Colorado-style IPA, power hopped with specialty hops from the Pacific Northwest. This is the brewery’s hop monster, and the citrus fruit aroma will hypnotize the senses of the most hardcore of craft drinkers. 15 Plato, 60 IBU, Crystal Malt, Warrior and Columbus hops, and dry hopped with Columbus.

Aroma is all hops - floral and bitter. Taste is citrus fruit (grapefruit mostly) and pine. Slightly sweet caramel malt note for balance. There’s also a peppery after taste to accompany a sharp, aggressively bitter finish. Carbonation is a bit more lively than I would like. Still this is a great IPA - it’s aggressively bitter and hoppy. Drinkable and very enjoyable.

Pours a slightly hazy light golden brown with a small white head. The aroma is full of nice grapefruit like hops with a little spruce as well. Flavor is full of grapefruit and pine with a nice bitter finish.

Pours golden orange with a billowy head that dissipates rapidly. Aroma is big hops, very fresh and light. Caramel and pine. Flavor is initially toasted, quickly heads into downtown hopsville. It does seem the brewmaster practiced some restraint, ans a decent balance is acheived, as the fruity hops fade and the bitter, dry grapefruit finish comes in. This style has recently been way overdone, but this is a good balanced example.

Bottle. Medium brown body, with large bubbles. Nice medium sized off white head. Nice light sweet fruity aroma. Nice hops, fresh fruits. Nice medium heavy hoppy flavour, fresh fruits. Bitter finish with a touch of tropical fruits. This is a fine beer, but could have had more of the lovely flavour and aroma. (At home, 02.04.09)

330ml bottle into tulip glass. A clear orange ale with a medium foamy off white head and nice lacing. Vigorous nose of floral hops with citrus-orange notes largely obscuring the caramel malts. Thickish body with a light caramel malt base and fruity mid palate but finishes with a very strong floral hop bitterness that lingers. Probably too strong for my liking and a touch soapy. The ABV comes through as well. If you like a strong IPA with bags of hops then this is for you. I prefer my IPAs to be a better balanced.

What a special IPA, nice texture, reliable hop presence, not a huge after bite in the taste, goes down quite well. can you still have fun? can I live while Im young?

I rated the pre-2008 one higher than this one. Based on that description, this one is not as good. Looks like a pale ale. Yellowish, not orangeish. Hop profile is fine, but Alpha King, considered a Pale Ale, is a better IPA than this.

Pours a really nice looking amber color with thin white head. Aroma is citrus hops and something almost floral. Really nice. Flavor is very hoppy, heavy on the citrus notes, but has a weird metallic twang on the backend and the bitterness gets really harsh. A bit more malt balance and this could be a great beer instead of just good.
