COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Full Disclosure: This beer came to fruition because we saw a gap in our portfolio and we wanted to increase our market share. Sometimes the truth hurts. But most often, it’s damn refreshing. The Truth Imperial IPA--the latest addition to our year-round portfolio-is a hop bomb of some of the most distinct Pacific Northwest hops available today. Its sharp hop bitterness begins with huge pine notes on the nose, which evolve into bright citrus (think grapefruit) and subtle stone fruit flavors.

UPDATED: OCT 20, 2013 12oz bottle. Nice aroma of mang, maybe peach. Beautiful, dense lacing. But the taste is lackluster: A mixture of thin grapefruit and thin mango which gives way to a chalky finish, that sticks in the mouth for a dusty long while. Pretty sub-average DIPA.

Bottle. Nose hugely reisnous, sort of sandy, with wood (heavy pine), heavy rind; tropical with light melon and lotion-like creaminess, spice, sharp bite which makes my head spin a bit just from the whiff. And there’s no doubt the citrus is coming (grapefruit, lemon, orange). Pour is ultra-clear golden that’s leaned over into fiery red-orange, plenty of streams of bubbles in the tulip and a soapy off-white head. Taste sweet, medium-strong bitterness in loose balance, loads of heavy waves of caramel in a heavy full body, strong pine and medium-strong resin, cleansing without being too soapy and alco-hot without burning. Papery Simcoe/Mosaic-type finish is significantly dried out; a lot of the bright burst of citrus is blunted by the heavy caramel but the overall flavor isn’t too dull or rounded off. Very faint green, slightly more present lotion/eucalyptus, mild pineapple and tangerine. Mouthfeel is great and lively for something so big, though the paper/resin scratches a little uncomfortably. A really nice take, went off in a distinctly different direction and pulled it off. [2016.02.09: 3.8]

Bottle. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy white head that lasted with very good lacing. Moderate to heavy complex hop aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy bittersweet flavor with a moderate to heavy bittersweet finish of medium to long duration. This is a solid brew.

Good clean earthy, grassy hop head IIPA. Best in Flying Dog’s selection. Attractive color. Will come back for this one.

Flaska. Svag lite skogig doft, mossa o barrträd. Ölen krämig o ligger fint i munnen. Först riktig fruktig för att smyga över till en bra beska.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 5/3/2016. Pours fairly crystal clear orange/amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, light honey, toasted bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of bright citrus/tropical/piney/spicy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, light honey, toasted bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Large amount of pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange rind, pepper, pine, toasted bread and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical/piney/spicy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, sticky/resinous, and lightly creamy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent DIPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical/piney/spicy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

12 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifter. Clear gold color with a white head of foam. The aroma has strong juicy citrus character and a pine nuance. The beer is a bit bitter at first, then sweetens up, and finishes with a crisp dryness. Medium body and medium carbonation.
