Full Disclosure: This beer came to fruition because we saw a gap in our portfolio and we wanted to increase our market share. Sometimes the truth hurts. But most often, itís damn refreshing. The Truth Imperial IPA--the latest addition to our year-round portfolio-is a hop bomb of some of the most distinct Pacific Northwest hops available today. Its sharp hop bitterness begins with huge pine notes on the nose, which evolve into bright citrus (think grapefruit) and subtle stone fruit flavors.

UPDATED: OCT 20, 2013 12oz bottle. Nice aroma of mang, maybe peach. Beautiful, dense lacing. But the taste is lackluster: A mixture of thin grapefruit and thin mango which gives way to a chalky finish, that sticks in the mouth for a dusty long while. Pretty sub-average DIPA.

On tap in a shaker. Pours transparent amber with an off-white head. Aroma of citrusy and resinous and floral hops, some pale and caramel malts, and some dough. Flavor the same with a nice hoppiness. Average texture. A solid double IPA but not the best.

amber color; citrusy hop aroma; a bitter, hoppy IPA with a lot of citrusy hop flavor

Appearance: clear orange, thick near white head. Aroma: blast of piney, resinous hops, then bitter citrus, then a hint of graham cracker. Taste: puckeringly bitter hops up front, with a bit of a malty, boozy burn underneath some tropical fruit. Finish: lingering, angry bitterness punching me in the uvula for a half hour. Notes: Meh. A Double IPA with no real sense of balance or decorum. Get thee behind me. The Truth hurts.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into 2/3 pint glass. Pours yellow amber with finger of off white head that receeds, but, not completely. Carbonation is small persistant bubbles that maintain a small head throughout. Iím picking up a lot of the catty simcoe in the aroma as well as alcohol. Very hoppy with a good malt background that almost stands up to the hops. Ends with a good deal of bitterness. I donít care for simcoe. If you like simcoe then youíll like this beer. Itís a very well executed beer

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a semi-clear golden color. A fluffy, barely off-white head of slightly over one finger caps the body off. Retention is okay, and so is lacing. S: This has that Simcoe-cum-Citra stank I love, along with some impressive tropical fruit aromas (mango, peach, papaya). Only minimal malts come through. This is a great nose, and would get an even higher score if it emanated more strongly from the glass. T: Wow, this is bitter. But beneath all that bitterness exists some great mango, peach, and papaya flavors, especially as it first hits the palate. Afterwards is when the piny bitterness (and hop oils) wash over the palate like sandpaper. Enjoyable sandpaper, that is. Slight maltiness comes through on the finish, too. Little complexity, but I donít care. M: Light and crisp, with just the slightest remainder of sweetness on the back of the palate to keep it (semi) balanced. No hint of 8.7% comes through anywhere. Good carbonation makes it moronically drinkable, also. O: This isnít one for those who are bothered by hop bitterness. This is one for those who like íem bitter yet tropical. I pray to the gods this will be a year-round DIPA thatís readily available and inexpensive in my area. Because even Jebus knows I need a local, high-quality DIPA that isnít priced like stupid.

Golden with white head. Citrus aroma. Sweet syrupy caramel malt start with a big piney hop finish. Lingering bitterness. This is the best offering from flying dog. The name of this beer was ripped off from an Asheville, NC brewery Green Man Jack of the Wood.

Draft->mini lager. Pours a light orange with small white head. Loads of citrus and pine hops. Bittersweet and chewy, very musky. AP. Quite good.
