Full Disclosure: This beer came to fruition because we saw a gap in our portfolio and we wanted to increase our market share. Sometimes the truth hurts. But most often, it’s damn refreshing. The Truth Imperial IPA--the latest addition to our year-round portfolio-is a hop bomb of some of the most distinct Pacific Northwest hops available today. Its sharp hop bitterness begins with huge pine notes on the nose, which evolve into bright citrus (think grapefruit) and subtle stone fruit flavors.

pale copper, thin foamy head...dusty aroma, flavors of burnt caramel, alcohol, moderate bitter long finish, no discernible malt (a plus in my book)... definitely drinkable but not a lot going on-- no real citrus or pine, etc..

bottle @ Party Source / Bellevue KY --- Aroma of caramel malt and citrus. Hazy bright medium amber, frothy white head that stays at a thick cover, strips and globs of lace. Taste is Malt with caramel that roars through medium fizz to a l-o-n-g finish that opens smoothly to solid citrus hops. A big brew, but light in the belly, and refreshing to drink. An excellent Imperial IPA.

Bottle. Hazy orange colour with stable head off. Aroma of pine, hops. Taste of citrus fruits, pine, very bitter, not balanced in my opinion, really rough beer, I feel it minutes after it is empty. Or it is because it is not my style.

Double IPA by Flying Dog, bottle from Saveur Bičre. No gushing but after several minutes foam started to slowly creep out of the bottle neck. Thick and frothy, densely creamy, egg-white, very stable head with thick ’papery’ lacing, lightly hazy warm ’old gold’ blonde robe. Aroma of pink grapefruit, dried mango, biscuit, barbecued chicken, lots of sweet paprika powder, pine resin, old oranges, lime-scented soap, apple cake, dried apricot, green banana, parsley, bread crumbs, lemon zest, cheese crackers, gin. Fruity onset, quite vivid but still clean, hinting at zucchini, dried mango and pear, with a light sweetness surrounded by a subtle sourishness; the first ’stings’ of hop bitterness are present early on as well as a very light, very vaguely green seaweed-like saltiness. Carbonation is medium and just about right for the style, mouthfeel is full and smooth, a tad oily and soapy, very faintly metallic. Biscuity and very lightly caramelly malt sweet middle with increasing hop bitterness on top of it, leading to a dry, resinous, piney and grapefruity, mildly but sufficiently aromatic hop bitter finish, with a dash of warming, gin-like alcohol in the very end. Piney hop aromatics linger for a long time but some of the biscuity, sweetish maltiness comes through after swallowing as well. Very typical but very decent IIPA, showing all the style’s properties in a technically flawless and elegant way, as is the case with most of this brewery’s beers: solid, true to style and delivering exactly what you’d expect from it.

From the bottle poured into Spiegelau IPA Glass, pours clear orange with stable off white head. Nose of pine and grapefruit. Taste is intense herbal hoppy. Slightly citric and a huge load of resin. Faint alcoholic presence and herbal finish... Gr8

355ml bottle. Slightly cloudy, orangey golden colour with average to huge, frothy, fairly lasting and lacing, white head. Bottle from De Slijterij van Alkmaar - Centrum, consumed at Frank (camper), Camping Bandstrad Edam, Thursday 29th September 2016 Crystal malt on the nose, along with a bullish hoppiness, though the maltiness stands out. Sweet but devilishly hoppy, thick in the mouth, long bitter streak, fresh juicy hops, really nice, lots of hoppy burps. Hazy golden in colour with a white sticky head. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8
