4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very good. Out of the Flying Dog brewery, this was their best. It has a distinct American-type, mass-produced beer flavor with a little something extra. I recommend this and the other beers by this brewer.

Stinky, ugly and simplistic. Another overblown beer from an overblown brewery. This is one microbrew that should have remained that way...

not bad. a good everyday kind of beer - about the minimum of taste for me.

Personally, I found the abundance of hops (aka the ’bite’?) in this beer to be a tad overwhelming. The front-end and after-tastes were just a little too bitter for my liking. Call me a wuss, call me a newbie - but I call ’em as I taste ’em. This isn’t a beer for me, sorry.

3.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Mine is a medium golden -- odd for the style which is lighter -- with a well done lasting and lacing crest. The bit of skunk is also unusual for an otherwise exceptional brewer. Crisp cool apple and malt flavors balanced by a mild hopping. It finishes sharp.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Simple beer, with a nice light aroma, and a beautiful golden color. Taste isn’t at all strong, making it more refreshing than many beers.

2.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A decent pale with no bad aftertaste usually associated with beers of it’s genre. Non-overwelming, which can be bot good and bad.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pleasantly hoppy beer, crisp, like those green-bottled beers from Germany w/o the skunkiness, perhaps. Could become a popular mainstream beer w. advertisement. Not much taste on the back end, but a pleasant hoppy tang, and no aftertaste. After pouring, the head immediately is reduced to 1/8 inch but remains throughout. I like this beer though its not the sort of thing I prefer to drink in winter. If we could just replace all the megabrew swilled by guzzlers across the U.S. with a brew like this, the world would be a better place...

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
UPDATED: JAN 20, 2007 Heavy bodied, almost syrupy, and very cloudy. Far too fruity and dirty. Buyer beware.

This is the first koelsch I’ve ever tasted, so I’m not very familiar with the style and therefore have nothing to compare it to. Having said that, I didn’t enjoy this beer very much. The nose seemed to be dominated by a sour (almost skunky) aroma with some malt and hop presence way in the background. The flavor profile also seemed to be dominated by an oddly sour taste with a sort of smoky flavor in the background. Maltiness and hoppiness also were evident in the background. Light amber color, lack of body and a minimal head didn’t help my appreciation of this beer. Judging from the other ratings my conclusion is that I really don’t like koelschs or this was seriously skunked. Either way I will try to re-rate in the near future in an attempt to rule out the skunkiness.
