jbrus (4835), Delft, Netherlands Feb 19, 2009 Bottle@Home. Hops, grain, hint of sewer aroma as well. Golden, white disappearing head, fair lace. Malt sweet, light bitterness, lightly hopped, light floral. Bit cloying, full. High drinkability. Kölsch? More like Golden Ale to me. JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Feb 17, 2009 Shortlived medium white head, fed by lively carbonation in deep-golden beer. Slightly spicy nose, with some recognisable hops. Very faraway sweetish pale malts. Bitterish, hoppy (seemingly UK hops, if grapey) flavour with a noticeable cardboard background. Hops dominate. Light; backthroat slickness, grist-like. Hops fade away very slowly. Not at all bad, hoppy golden ale. But a Kölsch??? Aber Mensch! Nicht mal nähe! jamvin23 (162), chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 15, 2009 Bottle. Clear golden color. Aroma: Sweet Flavor: crisp, light and hoppy. a good light summer drinker. DrnkMcDermott (1832), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Feb 15, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Golden, slightly cloudy color. Fizzy head, but with slightly larger bubbles. Smells of sweet malts, but with a bit of medicinal phenol. Taste is overly sweet, but at least not saccharine. Light bitterness. I’m kind of surprised that this comes out of Flying Dog, it’s a pretty average beer. Gassy and filling. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Feb 13, 2009 Sampled at the Flying Dog tasting at Blacklick Wine and Spirits on 2.12.09. Clear gold pour with a thin white head. Aroma of hop and malt with a ton of lager yeast influence. Odd, seeing as this is an ale. Flavor is pretty much the same. Average for the style, and the style is pretty average itself. jimmack34 (560), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Feb 11, 2009 Bottle. Pours a clear copper in color, with a thick persistant head. Smells like cereal grains and slightly corny. Tastes like semi-sweet malts with some bittering hops. Some lacing suggests some sticky sweetness, but I’m getting more of a grassy hop flavor and mild grain malt flavor. Not bad but not that good. altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Feb 9, 2009 Bier Koning. Golden body with short head. Grainy nose, citrus notes. Grainy and slightly bitter taste. Strong on the alcohol. Watery. Okay but not my fave. CelticBrew (676), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA Feb 8, 2009 Pours a clear pale golden color with a thin layer of alabaster bubbles. Aroma is of light grains, citrus, grass and earth. The flavour was heavy on the corn and sugar with a bit of malt chiming in. The finish lingered and the body was thin. Rather boring. Not my fave style either.
