xxbeermexx (1), USA does not count Dec 28, 2006 Picked up a six pack of bottles. Bland taste that will last you through the night. Its not super strong or tastey, just good. Its not so golden tasting but still has a decent taste. I probably wouldnt buy it again but i recomend trying it. miket25 (24), USA Dec 25, 2006 A notch above common American brews. Nothing special. Hard to place the aroma, smells off - a little skunky. The taste is light with a slight bitter finish. Color is like a murky golden, with very little head. Not very memorable and nothing like other Flying Dog products. DJC (238), USA Dec 21, 2006 Light gold color, with a very thin head. Hardly any lacing. Aroma is a nice balance of malts and hops. Flavor is somewhat sweet and watery at first, but then the malts and hops show up to liven the party. Interesting experience. In other words, wait for the profile to develop before you write this beer off. Cereal-like, mildly bitter aftertaste. Definitely refreshing. troyc (1173), Lubbock, Texas, USA Dec 18, 2006 (Bottle) Pours golden with white head. Mild flavoring, yet decently balanced. Malty aroma, with sweet and nutty aftertaste. Fine carbonation. Not a bad beer overall, just nothing remarkable. islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Dec 17, 2006 Bottle. Typical "beer" smell, like that of a pale lager. Slight floral sweetness in the aroma. Pours a sparkling yellow / gold with a small amount of off-white head. The flavor is bland. There is more hops than malt taste, but that’s not saying much, because I can barely taste either. It’s almost like drinking a carbonated water. It’s not a bad taste at all, but there’s just not much there. The flavors do emerge a little bit after multiple sips. Unlike most macro pale lagers, the taste impoves as you drink rather than becoming disgusting. Tire Bite is crisp and refreshing to the palate, but it lacks the buttery texture of some of the better kolsches and other golden ales. It’s a pleasant thirst quencher, but it’s forgettable. I’d definitely rather drink this than most macro crap, but, if I didn’t know any better, I would assume this was merely an unoffensive macro pale lager. That said, this beer would not be a bad choice if you are having unsophisticated beer drinkers over and you want to be able to stomach any leftovers. Also, I do think that this beer would hold up well to multiple drinkings, because what first seems to be blandness can be re-interpreted as subtlety as one drinks more. One common problem in beer rating is that raters tend to be drawn to extreme tastes that, though initially enjoyable, would not hold up well if the beers in question were consumed more often. This beer does not make a strong first impression, but I may well prefer it to beers that I have rated higher if I had to drink them more frequently. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 16, 2006 Brown 12 oz bottle. Pours just like any other common pale yellow american style beer. Aroma is perhaps slighty flowery. In my steeler mug it looks decent, clear and light yellow with its aristocratic carbonation. Initial hit is a bit of bitterness and an interesting assiduous flavor. Is this a little sour? I think not, perhaps I mean peevish or cranky. Finish is a little bitter but nothing terribly lingering. Nothing really better than your typical pale yellow american style beer. Zimmo (57), Siloam Springs, Arkansas, USA Dec 9, 2006 12 oz bottle. Pours golden with white foamy head. Light crisp aroma. Reminds me why I’m not a Kolsch fan. Just not much here to get excited about. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA Dec 4, 2006 12 oz Bottle via jgd0608 (thanks!). Pours a clear pale golden blonde with a small white head. Noes is spicey/fruity. Pear, bananna, yeast. Flavor is the same with a somewhat dry finish. Also a slight bit of apple detected in the aftertaste. Light body and moderate carbonation. A decent easy to drink golden ale.
