3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from beernavigator. Pours golden and clear with white head. Herbs, citrus and brett on the nose. The surpricing slightly tart bretttaste puzzles me, herbs, flowers, limezest, little bitterness, dry finish, fresh, lots of carbonation. Not a hoppy beer, but crisp and refreshing with that herbal/bretty twist.

Pours a clear golden yellow. For what this is, it’s very enjoyable, crip and refreshing with the right amoun of hops to make it stand out. Good beer for this style.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Multiple cans sunk while watching Kraftwerk @ the Tate Modern. Forgive me for not actually pouring the beer. Appearance defaults to a 3. The aroma’s light biscuit, graham cracker. Touches of tropical fruit. Maybe some honeyed apple. The taste is pleasingly hop-forward. This is certainly not a traditional lager. Nice tropical fruits. Some hints of mango and pineapple. General pale malts. Smooth white bread. Light body, active carbonation. Very easy to drink. This rates highly on the ’poundability’ scale. Overall, a nice little number. Maybe not a perfect post-workout beer, but it’s close...

Can, Sörspecialista, courtesy of Ogreface, thanks!
Poured clear yellow with a small lacing white head. Some aroma of hay, some malt and sourish yeast, light european hops. Medium bodied one with light malt, grains and yeast, some herbal-grassy hop in the finish.

There is one beer I always have plenty of in my fridge and beer cellar, namely the versatile, easy-to-drink, wife-friendly 77 Lager from BrewDog. Could a lager from the other doggy style brewery Flying Dog be as good? It doesn’t start out very well, the colour of the beer is simply too light and watery looking, I like my beers to look like they’ve got something to offer! The very light golden body is initially clear, but as I empty the bottle I get some particles and some yeast haze mixed in. The head is large, frothy, white, very long-lived and laces the glass excellently. The aroma is not strong with notes of pale malts, fruits and citrus. Not bad, but a bit boring, and very far from the rather intense, malty, hoppy and complex aroma of the 77 Lager. The taste is light sweet, light acidic and with a light to moderate bitter finish that is dry and too short. The flavours are subdued, with faint fruits, lemon, yeast and some quite sharp, almost sour herby notes. The flying dogs try to mask the very light and watery nature of the body with a lively carbonation, but I’m not fooled. It’s quite crisp and refreshing, and might be a better than average lager, but I’m still highly disappointed.

Well, this is fine. But it is boring. If you want a proper bottle of Premium Lager (which is what this is by the way) then I suggest you get yourself a bottle of Mikkeller’s American Dream, which is abundant with b-e-a-u-tiful hops. Though, be careful, cause that’s where this whole adventure may start, and before you know it you’ll be wanting to be asleep before 8pm. Did someone say ’a 2 beer night’?

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. Pours a very clear golden yellow color with a bubbly white head. Aroma is grainy. Just, grainy. Flavor is much the same. Grains and bitter. Premium lager without the adjuncts.

Pretty basic lager. Nothing too special going on here. Very light, low carbonation. Pours a nice gold color.

[355ml can, Drinkmonger Edinburgh] Pours a very slightly hazy apricot yellow, rocky white head. Aroma is grassy, herbal, with a slight edge of lemon. Taste is slightly grainy, nice malt balance, with some grassy hop on the finish, which is nicely crisp. Not as hop-forward as I was expecting, but still very nice
