Black color , espresso like head. Aroma of whisky big time, chocolate, dark fruits, pretty complex aroma. Taste is amazing it suits the aroma perfectly... complex as single malt whiskey aged for long time in oak casks. Full body, thick texture, velvety carbonation. Me and my girlfriend are amazed, this brew is something every beer geek should try!

Sweet roast malt aroma and lots of charred oak barrel. Chocolate and coffee notes too. Almost black with dark brown head. Starts with roast malt and coffee notes, but dominated by the the barrel. much less hop character than the non barrel-aged version. Both are a pleasure to fuss over.

12 oz bottle at home (also notes from a 750). Pours dark brown to black in color with a small khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit, cherry, with noticeable bourbon (especially the nose), vanilla and oak, smooth drinking and an improvement on the base.

from growler..pours a fairly medium black with a slight mocha brown head..nose is laden with vanilla..oak..slight bitter chocolate as well..mouthfeel is sublime on this..velvety is a solid description..the initial hit of the whiskey packs a slight boozy punch at first but is quickly mellowed out by some cinnamon/spicy notes and is not hot at all..had this in a 12 oz bottle a few years back and haven’t seen this around as much..very good offering..quite similar in many ways to bcbs with considerable less abv..

Old school bottle, thanks to James! Pours deep purple brown. Whiskey, cocoa, smoke, caramel, wood. Soft & creamy, no carbo... This may be quite an old bottle, many eons.

Tap at Beer Temple, 23rd October 14. Great bourbon notes on the aroma, taste is a perfect blend of the base beer with the barrel and whiskey, smooth and very drinkable. Lovely

Bottle share courtesy Chris. Thanks buddy! Pours super dark brown almost black. Dense tan cap. Aroma of dark fruit, bourbon, wood, bitter chocolate, vanilla. Taste is sweet, and softly bitter. A hint of warming booze, creamy mouthfeel, and sticky. Very pleasant rich bitter chocolate dry finish.

Did a three year vertical 2011, 2012, 2013 all poured from a bottle into three snifters. Will compare each. Aroma 2011 and 2012: Are identical with aromas of chocolate whisky alcohol roasted coffee and coconut. Aroma 2013: Lots of alcohol some chocolate, whiskey and coconut. More subdued than the other years. Appearance: All three dark brown almost black like old motor oil. 2011 had no head just a slight amount of bubbles around the perimeter of glass. The 2012 had a one finger tan head that hung around for some time before reducing to a ring around the perimeter of the glass. 2013 had a half finger tan head that vanished similar to the 2012. Taste: 2011 is the winner with rich chocolate vanilla coconut whisky. 2011 aged very well. 2012 had lots of roasted chocolate coffee and whisky coconut but slightly acidic compared to the 2011. 2013 was least favorite but still excellent. Flavor was most like 2012 with less robust presence. Palate: 2011 was smooth creamy excellent perfect. The 2012 and 2013 were more carbonated almost too much when compared to 2011 but still good. Had to step away and cleanse my palate when going from the 2011 because it so over shadowed the others. Overall I loved them all but the 2011 is a clear winner. Ranking them 1,2,3 I’d say winner 2011, 2nd 2012, 3rd 2013. Bottom line ... age these at least three years. You’ll really appreciate the results. Cheers!

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance –Pours a deep brown color, bordering on black, with a big two finger billowy brown colored head. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a very light level of streaky lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is big of roasted and sweet smells. The roasted aromas are a nice blend of toasted malt, coffee, and cocoa with the sweeter smells being a mix of milk chocolate and a strong caramel aroma. Along with these smells comes the barrel aromas of a woody smell as well as a good showing of some boozy whisky. Overall the aroma is of a pleasant roasty and boozy nature.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweet caramel and chocolate flavor mixed with lots of roasted malt taste. As the taste moves on the caramel fades with more roastiness coming to the tongue. The roasted flavors are a mix of a toasted malt and coffee with the coffee taking on a more bitter and intense flavor as the taste moves toward the end. Along with the roasted and coffee flavors getting stronger, a woody barrel and boozy whisky flavor comes to the tongue more toward the middle and the end. All in all, with the mix of flavors, a warming, somewhat bitter, coffee and roasted boozy taste is left to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel –The body of the brew is on the thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. Bother are quite nice for the roasted and boozy flavors and make for a nice slow sipper with a great warming feel.
Overall – A big robust porter with a sweeter start and more bitter and roasted finish all with a good showing of whisky and woody flavors. A nice slow sipper.

"750 - nice presentation. Generous head, especially for a barreled beer. Like the classic Gonzo, a little rough around the edges with the fizziness and aggressiveness of the flavors (not to mention whiskey instead of, say, a smoother bourbon) but therein lies the charm. It’s what I expected and hoped for. Pretty sweet, but a good balance of booze, roast, chocolate, a hint of tartness and hops."
