Nejhleader (783), Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 15, 2007 Thanks to Vac for the bottle. Amazing beer I thought. Great body, nice and creamy, aroma was a bit sweet and a bit roast. Taste was a bit of vanilla with a very nice hint of whisky, also a bit oaky it seemed. Super Stuff, and all in the name of HST.
hopdog (4569), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 7, 2008 750ml bottle. This one opened to a very loud pop. I was waiting for the gush but thankfully it never came. It did however pour all head, and I mean all head. Took a while to settle down into a dark brown color (head was off white). Aromas of wood, lighter whiskey, earhty, light vanilla, and chocolate. Tastes of whiskey, lighter woodiness, vanilla, chocolate, roast, and some raisins. Alcohol content well hidden. With the pop and pour, I expected this to be over carbonated, but the body was nice and smooth with very light carbonation. Bigmmartin (208), Dayton, Ohio, USA Aug 27, 2008 On tap sample at Dayton AleFest. Everything about this beer is a little more mellowed out than the original Gonzo. The aroma is there, but with a softer more, more chocolatey aroma. The flavor is similar, toned down a bit compared to the regular version. Not as bitter. More smooth and sweet. A wonderful beer definitely, but I tend to lean towards the original Gonzo more. I enjoy the strong flavors of the original, backed by a substantial bitter punch. 1_2many (231), Ohio, USA Aug 26, 2008 Dayton Alefest. Dark brown with a nice head and lacing. Hops are still there like the normal Gonzo along with a roastiness from the wood. Otherwise this is much like the original. Nice mouthfeel, soft carbonation, moderate bitter finish. Very Good. AndyReynolds (55), Wilder, Kentucky, USA Aug 26, 2008 Dark brown with a tan head, good lacing. Strong caramel/chocolate aroma with hints of darkfruits and smoke. The flavor was strong with chocolate and whiskey, but it had a bitter smokey finish. I actually prefer the regular Gonzo Porter over the barrel-aged. ewestern (87), Ohio, USA Aug 25, 2008 Deep brown-amber color with a creamy tan head that left good lacing. Strong caramel aroma with dark fruit and chocolate going through. Creamy chocolate malt flavor with a bitter finish.
