COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hunter S. Thompson once said, "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Consider this our professional version of Gonzo Imperial Porter. Aged and seasoned for three months in wood barrels from our neighbors at Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey, this ale has a well-balanced taste and abundance of character. The taste will remind you of sweet chocolate, dry oak, and smooth whiskey with a memorable, velvety mouthfeel.

~~I was able to buy this in Greens in Cola, SC, thanks to Pop the Cap SC!!! Stocked 2 days after bill clears!~~ 750ml Pours inky brown w/ an eruption of tan foam. Easy nose that gives little clue to whats inside. Whiskey is very obvious on the first few sips but fads quickly to just hints in the background. The bitterness of the "reg" gonzo has either mellowed or been overpowered, but easier to swallow nose. An awesome beer sweet and dangerously drinkable.

750ml bottle. Pours out a dark brown almost black topped with a tan head. Nose is molasses roast malts chocolate and smoke. Taste is as the nose with a good roast mix. This is a pretty old bottle but has held up well.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, 2012 vintage bottling. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, molasses, toast, toffee, vanilla, oak, bourbon, dark bread, light smoke, and roast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, molasses, toffee, vanilla, oak, bourbon, dark bread, smoke, light char, and roast/oak earthiness. Fair amount of deep roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roast, coffee, toast, molasses, toffee, vanilla, oak, bourbon, dark bread, smoke, light char, and roast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity of intense dark/roasted malt and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great malt/barrel flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy, slick, and lightly chalky/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible barrel aged imperial porter! All around awesome complexity of intense dark/roasted malt and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Whiskey barrel gone wild. Not sure why I keep trying these barrel aged beers when the ordinary ones are usually better. Barreling is an art not often perfected but always glorified. Some roast malt and dark chocolate here but barrel train wrecks over it. Finishes bitter with whiskey malt traces. Black without much head or lacing. Tap at Churchkey.

On tap 8oz. snifter at Scion restaurant in Silver Spring, MD. Opaque, dark brown with a creamy khaki head and excellent lacing. Aroma of plums, chocolate, whiskey, roasted malt, citrus, coffee, toffee, licorice, molasses, oak and blackberries. Taste of chocolate, roasted malt, charcoal, dark berries, citrus, licorice, plums, raisins, bourbon, coffee and molasses with a noticeable alcohol burn at the finish. Full/medium body and medium carbonation. An incredibly rich and complex ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft (2014 release) at Flying Dog Brewery poured into a goblet. Pours a brownish black with about half a finger of tan head. Aromas of whiskey, caramel, vanilla, dark fruit. Tasting notes of coconut, vanilla, dark chocolate, subtle hops. Medium-full body with a sticky and semi-dry finish. Very nice barrel character on this.

22oz bottle served in snifters, split with a friend. This takes the regular gonzo to a whole new level - one of my most favourite porters.
