This one poured a deep brownish black with a two-finger head that had solid retention and very good lacing. Smell was a wonderful chocolate, coffee aroma with sweet malts. Taste follows the smell with heavy whiskey undertones and dark fruits, chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. Quite a wonderful taste! The mouthfeel was very creamy and silky smooth. I was pleasantly surprised and this is the best Flying Dog brew I’ve had the privilege of trying. Very nice!

Aug 9, 2008 Bottle: Thanks to imadeadguy for sending this in trade a while back. Pours nearly black with a massive, creamy brown head. Sweet whiskey notes and ultimately ba notes flow into the air with a bit of chocolate. Wonderful aroma is just rich, sweet, and inviting. A silky mouthful is full of chocolate, light roastiness, bits of oak/ba notes, and the underlying whiskey presence. Maybe just a bit heavy on the whiskey presence, but still remains Very smooth and balanced.

Aug 5, 2008 (draft) Creamy brown head that leaves nice lacing atop dark brown body. Aroma is medium sweet, plum/raisin, whisky, some chocolate. Taste is moderately sweet, coffee, Bourbon, chocolate, caramel, some alcohol, light plum/raisin. Smooth medium-full body.

Jul 29, 2008 750 ml bottle from the original ’05 bottling. Thanks much to Andrew for this one! Holy crap this is good. The bourbon blends with the roasty, chocolate-y notes superbly. Really enjoyed this one a lot. Age did it proud!

Jul 13, 2008 Pours dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roastiness, wood, whiskey, a bit of alcohol. Flavor is nicely balanced. Good stuff.

Jul 12, 2008 Shared with Mike Lang over an intense game of Risk with the wives. Pours beautiful black body with thick creamy brown head and good lacing. Chocolate and caramel, Vanilla, wood, oak, plum, raisin, rum, Aroma. English barlywine characteristics in flavor. Slightly oaky and molasses, dark fruit flavors. Medium velvety body with soft mouthfeel and only a slight bit of carbonation. Sweet and even finish. Well balanced, and does a great job of masking the abv. But still isn’t great enough to warrant the $16 price tag.
