COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hunter S. Thompson once said, "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Consider this our professional version of Gonzo Imperial Porter. Aged and seasoned for three months in wood barrels from our neighbors at Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey, this ale has a well-balanced taste and abundance of character. The taste will remind you of sweet chocolate, dry oak, and smooth whiskey with a memorable, velvety mouthfeel.

Thanks to pushkinwow for this. Pours black with a thin off white top. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt and oak dominate, maybe a little smoke. Taste is medium body, lots of roastiness, moderate coffee, not overpowering with a small heat from the whiskey. The whiskey is very subtle which is nice.

Bottle bb. 22.4.12. Black, no head. Dark chocolate, tobacco, vanilla, typical bourbon notes. Treacle and chocolate in abundance, the BA notes stay a bit more in the background, tobacco and dark chocolate on the tongue, alcohol burm, smoke and roast restronasal. Oily thick mouthfeel with a few sparkles. I am starting to dislike the BA flavor profile, but the rich chocolate notes makes this a quite nice desert beer.

On tap at the Corner Cafe. Pours dark brown with a thin, tan head. The aroma is chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and faint oak. The flavor is very sweet and malty. The palate is medium, lively, and sticky. Overall, this is a mild and sweet porter, with a subtle aroma.

On draft at Mellow Mushroom Brandon, FL. Pours deep dark brown/black with khaki head. Smells of whiskey and vanilla. Tastes of very bitter chocolate, whiskey and burnt coffee. Very thin body and mouth feel for my taste. High carbonation for a BA beer and along with the bitter flavors does not leave an appealing after taste. I think this beer will cellar well and age will do it some good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

i dont usually go in for the imperial style beers, but seeing it on tap at a local beer place, i had to give it a whirl. it mildly smoky, has the leather and tobacco-ness you would expect, but surprisingly the alcohol is kept in check and its not that heavy. as it warms it becomes a little more whiskey-like though. a neat beer but i dont think i could handle more than one.

Bottle from the back of the cellar. Circa 2007/2008 I think. Cork comes off with a reassuring pop. Pour is nearly black with an enormous brown head. Aroma is loaded with milk chocolate, dark fruit, faint vanilla, light tart notes, tobacco, and a touch of holiday spice. Very little oxidation to speak of. Flavor is very smooth with loads of milk chocolate, light roasted malt notes, a touch of dark fruit, and some vanilla in the finish. Really impressed with how well this held up. Nothing like it tasted fresh and nothing like regular Gonzo.

35 cl bottle @ home. Pours black with some sediment and a small mocha head that slowly fades leaving a little lacing. Aroma is vinous, oak, chocolate and dark fruits. Taste is booze, dark fruits and chocolate with some warming alcohol in the finish.

Bottle. Poured a thick black, think tan head. Aroma of booze, chocolate, heavy fruit, some spice and coffee. Taste is very complex, aromas with vanilla, oak, whiskey and roasted malt. Awesome take of FD’s Imperial Porter, also a favorite.

Love the original....Love the BA version even more. Adds so much more complexity and layers. Love the huge bouquet of whiskey.

Loads of vanilla, oak and bourbon aroma. Sweeter than the regular. Got a little biterness. Amazing beer.

Bottle from beer temple in Amsterdam. I shall be honest, this beer nearly brought a tear to my eye. It was incredible.
