3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jmgreenuk (1374) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - MAR 10, 2013
Poured a dark mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is of smoke and peat that almost defies you not to take a sip! The flavour is strongly bitter, but not overpowering, with a lots of liqourice and dark chocolate and plenty of spice on the palate. Smoked "double lager" ?? Really? This is a superb beer and I could drink this all night long if it were not for the 7.8% ABV, which is incidentally very well controlled and does not dominate the beer.
