COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Why is there only one time of year Ė as goblins, ghouls, and ghosts frolic on front lawns Ė when we embrace THE FEAR? At all other times, THE FEAR dominates us, controls us, and prevents us from greatness. What is there to THE FEAR? Disagreement? Criticism? Humiliation? Whatever THE FEAR is that consumes you, embrace it, along with this Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Only then will the true artist in you rise up.

12oz bottle from Samís, Durham. Took me a while to muster up the will to crack this one, thinking that it would be an imperialized - and thus merely sweeter - pumpkin ale. Blessedly wrong about that part. Itís still a style that leaves me pretty cold, donít get me wrong, and is sweeter and more indiscriminately spiced than I generally care for. But thereís a really dry, almost noble hoppy streak at the beerís heart that relieves and redeems it considerably. That dry finish makes it parmly.

From a bottle. smell is dull malty pumpkin spice. Aroma is a little bit better once in the glass. Looks pretty good in the glass. No head. Big strong alky notes initially followed by some hints of pumpkin something in there. What is this, a race to see who can make the highest alky content pumpkin beer? Pretty high alky, I wonder how it would age. Yes, next slug is again bug alky kick. Does not hide its 9% well and I donít think I know of many beers that do; although one does come to mind but its an aged barley wine. With the next slug of this medicinal stuff I feel a warming sensation going down my throat and developing in my gullet. Yes, a big pumpkin beer fer sure. THis comes on like many other high aklky veggie soiced brews, yes big impact. Once you have a few sips of this, the smell starts to get a tad more acceptable in a sweet kind of way. Strong but never too cloying. Would not buy this again, it is way too over the top for my girlie lager loven taste buds. Fortunately there is some co2 in there to help overcome the alky effects. Gee, I think Iím getting dizzy once I come to the bottom of this bottle.

Cask. Pours a deep coppery brown, almost black, with a thin light tan head. Quite sweet, pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, not too much spice, caramel, and chocolate. Smooth creamy mouthfeel from the cask. A good one from the handpump, tasty.

Mahogany hued beer out of the bottle with a lasting khaki colored head. Spicy nose with plenty of pumpkin pie spice and a hint of the ABV. Molasses and heavy caramel sweetness with lots of pie spice and alcohol. Nice round mouthfeel with a long, dusty spice finish.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a cola glow and a thin, one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of pungent squash notes with a lot of allspice, coriander seed, cardamom and a hint of pepper. Medium to Full-bodied; Dense squash mouthful with very deep and earthy maltiness, some alcohol flavours and a spicey note along with some peat and leather. Aftertaste is deep and robust with a hint of chocolate and tobacco, some strong earth and a good amount of spices. Overall, this is almost more like an Imperial Alt than anything else - very deep and dark with pungent spices and a thick maltiness. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 24-October-2012 for US$2.49 sampled at home in Washington on 04-December-2012.

Clean burnt copper brown with one finger sandy tan head. Nose shows pumpkin flesh and rich dextrinous malt with a mellow spice profile and a touch of alcohol. Full bodied and spicy with a warming finish. Lite bitterness, malt forward.
