COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Why is there only one time of year – as goblins, ghouls, and ghosts frolic on front lawns – when we embrace THE FEAR? At all other times, THE FEAR dominates us, controls us, and prevents us from greatness. What is there to THE FEAR? Disagreement? Criticism? Humiliation? Whatever THE FEAR is that consumes you, embrace it, along with this Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Only then will the true artist in you rise up.

Bottle:   Brownish in color, a bit dark, some dark caramel hues, thin sudsy eggshell colored head, spotty lacing.   Some heat right up front, otherwise rich nutmeg and cinnamon aromas.   Smells a bit like pumpkin bread.   Roasty start, sweet, a little milk sugar like sweetness, followed by some fairly strong spices.   Its almost a little too sweet.   Oh, and yeah its pretty warming going down.   Its a bit of a bruiser, that I think over the next few months will settle a bit.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Fairly smooth finish, but the backside has also some tricky citrus peel like acidity.   I want more of the pumpkin bread that I got in the nose, but instead its a strong medley of spices, some heat, and some citrus peel zest.   Decent, but wait on this one.   Thanks for the sixer Bert!

Serving: Cask at Fireworks. It pours a dark, muddy brown with a small, off white head. The nose is all pumpkin spice. The flavor is sweet with brown malt, some brown sugar, pumpkin spice, and an odd bitterness. The alcohol is very obvious. Medium bodied with low carbonation leading to an odd, lingering finish. The flavors just didn’t come together. Tastes like a failed pumpkin porter.

Sampled on nitro tap at the brewery during their Halloween costume party 2011. Beautiful near black pour with dense tan head. Roasty and nutmeg spice. Thought this was like a pumpkin stout. Tasty and velvety smooth on the nitrogen.

Draft at iron abbey. Dark brown to black pour. Smell is heavy on fall spices. Taste is pretty much just spice and heavy dark malts. Doesn’t hide alcohol well and sits rather heavy on the tongue.

I thought this was pretty good. Not great. More subtle pumpkin than some, lots of spices. Very dark for the style also, slightly boozy. Overall I think it’s worth a shot, but not something I need over and over.

On tap at iron Abbey. Light brown pour. Aroma is clove, allspice. Taste is same. It’s overly spiced without an actual pumpkin presence. Still decent. Basil is the secret ingredient.

Draft at iron abbey beer dinner. Aroma of pumpkin(duh) and pretty heavy cloves. I like the "pumpkin pie" in a pumpkin ale, but this is not it. Still pretty good though.

Had with Jeff at iron abbey beer dinner October 19 2011. Nice pumpkin spice flavor. Dark and a little sweet. Kind of a brown sugar taste. Maybe too dark and sweet for the style.

Bottle. Deep brown to black, clear, nice tan head. Aroma is heavy clove pumpkin ... Good twist on the norm. Smooth, medium body. Very good all around for a spiced option.

Tap at Varga Bar. I overheard to Flying Dog rep a month ago at Paradiso Dupont bragging how Flying Dog was finally making a pumpkin, but it was going to be 9% and crazy..."you know how we do things...bold and big!" Oh joy.

The pour looks like stout or porter- nearly black in the glass with a denser tan head. Sticky swathes of lace. Looks more like Midnight Sun’s pumpkin porters. Nose is black cherry and pumpkin pie spices. Taste is extremely medicinal, cloves to the max, much too cinnamon powdery and clove numbing. Feels contrived. Spiced out to the maximum.
