Why is there only one time of year Ė as goblins, ghouls, and ghosts frolic on front lawns Ė when we embrace THE FEAR? At all other times, THE FEAR dominates us, controls us, and prevents us from greatness. What is there to THE FEAR? Disagreement? Criticism? Humiliation? Whatever THE FEAR is that consumes you, embrace it, along with this Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Only then will the true artist in you rise up.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a dark brown color. Not quite stout-y looking, but darker than a lot of pumpkin ales Iíve encountered. The head is a creamy mocha shade, about one finger high. Itís both soft-looking and well retaining, all while leaving a nice ring of lacing down the side of the glass. S: The spice levels here are strong; lots of ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove here. Thereís something vaguely medicinal here that Iím not sure of, though. Otherwise, touches of pumpkin, brown sugar, and caramel round out the decent aroma. T: For about a second, itís opens up with a pleasant layer of spices. After that second, problems ensue: the flavors become quite minty to the point of being medicinal. Luckily, the aftertaste is pleasantly roasty. The combination of the minty middle and the alcohol presence sends this one spiraling down into mediocrity - and straight into the realm of crappiness. M: The smooth body is a welcoming respite...until it dries up on the swallow, exposing some of the harsher flavors. Somewhat boozy, and also slightly overcarbonated. O: This reminds me that while there are a few rock-solid beers from this brewery (like Raging Bitch), some of their other stuff is painfully mediocre. Like this - actually, no, it kind of sucks. Will not be buying again.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. The aroma is a sweet caramel syrup, toffee, and chocolate blend with a sweet potato / pumpkin pie note early that fades and ends with a strong toffee and mild coffee with an undertone of sugar. The beer appears slick, with a rich, glossy, dark black brown hue topped by a soft, foamy beige head that has an above average retention and leaves decent lace. The taste is a medium high bittersweet that maybe leans a bit more sweet. The texture is chewy and slick with a foamy carbonation and a full body flavored with chocolate, and bread crust with an earthy, vegetal undertone. The finish is sticky but with a clean flavor of woody spice, light pumpkin puree, that fades, and a strong touch of chalk. The aftertaste is dry, slightly chalky, lightly astringent, with bitter coffee, dark chocolate, and bread crust thatís mildly lingering, and eventually leads to bitter clove.

Clear light brown pour with light tan head. Spiced pumpkin in aroma. Taste didnít quite bring me to thanksgiving and pumpkin pie. While our did Skinner a balance of sweetness and spice, it does not evoke thoughts of pumpkin pie.

Pours dark brown with a one finger tan head with decent lacing. Aroma is of pumpkin meat, pie spices, caramel, sweet malts, coffee, lightly roasted malts, and some toffee. Taste is about the same as the aroma with the addition of some dark chocolate and mild hop bitterness. Has a medium-full body with a creamy mouthfeel and a slightly bitter, long, slightly warming finish. Overall, tasty, complex pumpkin that hides its high abv very well.

Aromas of pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice, cinnamon, dark malts, roasted coffee and hints of chocolate. Pours black with a thin foam rim and noticeable alcohol legs. Taste is immediate pumpkin spice, cinnamon, pumpkin pie and some pines upfront. Mid palate brings dark malt complexity, chocolate, roasted malt, roasted coffee and fudge. Finishes harsh and boozy with residual pumpkin spice, roasted pumpkin and chocolate. Overall, this beer is very aggressive and has a ton of booziness to it. Lots and lots of chocolate notes collaborating with the pumpkin flavors. Lots of complexity and depth. Very impressive.
