COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Why is there only one time of year Ė as goblins, ghouls, and ghosts frolic on front lawns Ė when we embrace THE FEAR? At all other times, THE FEAR dominates us, controls us, and prevents us from greatness. What is there to THE FEAR? Disagreement? Criticism? Humiliation? Whatever THE FEAR is that consumes you, embrace it, along with this Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Only then will the true artist in you rise up.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a dark brown color. Not quite stout-y looking, but darker than a lot of pumpkin ales Iíve encountered. The head is a creamy mocha shade, about one finger high. Itís both soft-looking and well retaining, all while leaving a nice ring of lacing down the side of the glass. S: The spice levels here are strong; lots of ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove here. Thereís something vaguely medicinal here that Iím not sure of, though. Otherwise, touches of pumpkin, brown sugar, and caramel round out the decent aroma. T: For about a second, itís opens up with a pleasant layer of spices. After that second, problems ensue: the flavors become quite minty to the point of being medicinal. Luckily, the aftertaste is pleasantly roasty. The combination of the minty middle and the alcohol presence sends this one spiraling down into mediocrity - and straight into the realm of crappiness. M: The smooth body is a welcoming respite...until it dries up on the swallow, exposing some of the harsher flavors. Somewhat boozy, and also slightly overcarbonated. O: This reminds me that while there are a few rock-solid beers from this brewery (like Raging Bitch), some of their other stuff is painfully mediocre. Like this - actually, no, it kind of sucks. Will not be buying again.

Dark brown, lingering head. Aroma gingerbread spice - a ton of it. If its your thing, you can proceed :) Also some vermouth and cloves. Palate medium, low carbonation. Taste is liquid ginger dough, liquory. Port wine finish. Nice one, albeit one can be too many. This beer is made to be shared :)

Draught @ Headkeeper: In a tulip glass. This one pours a dark, opaque reddish-brown. There was a thin tan head that left some lacing. Lots of malts to the nose, along with some pumpkin pie spices. The taste is very good. Lots of malts, pumpkin and pumpkin pie spices. Some slickness in the mouthfeel.

Aroma is pumpkin, spices and medium sweetness. The flavor is spices/cinnamon, malts, slight pumpkin, slight sweetness and a mix of sour and coarse heat in the finish.

An above average pumpkin ale, though I thought it to be a bit on the sweet side.

Poured into a perfect pint. 4.0 A: Clear deep amber color. Two fingers of foamy beige head. Retention is pretty good and a good finger of interrupted lacing is left. 4.25 S: Big potent pumpkin in this. Spices are just as strong with cinnamon and nutmeg leading the way and allspice and clove just underneath. Maybe a hint of ginger as well. Molasses and dark caramel. Toasted malts lead a sweet aroma. Very nicely done. 3.75 T: This is an in your face type of brew. The spice mixture is really potent, perhaps even a touch too much. The allspice flavor is the most aggressive and really hits you hard. Again, thereís a strong pumpkin component. Toasted malts, molasses, and dark caramel malts make a formidable malt base. Iím not sure if itís the hops or the spices, but this has a bit too much bitterness in it. Still, itís pretty damn good. 3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Decently creamy with a tinge of booze on the finish. 3.75 D: Great nose and good otherwise. This is an aggressive pumpkin beer that does a lot of things right and does a few things a touch too strong. ★ 1,117 characters DavoleBomb, Sep 26, 2015

Lots of spices in the nose and flavor, but has the body to support it. A little sweet, and more bitter than expected with a lightly toasted malt and caramel backbone.
