This Belgian-style Abbey Dubbel is an exceptionally complex beer with many interwoven flavors. This classic-style Abbey beer features an immense head with a fruity nose and a generous body. Malty in the middle, the beer features a clean, almondy dry finish and a slight alcohol warmth. More like a wine than a beeróit has a lot of the qualities of a fine Burgundy. The beer is bottle-conditioned.

Appearance: orangey-amber, almost clear, with a one-finger off-white head poured into a chalice; minimal legs or lacing. Aroma: heavy with raisin, clove, and toasty brown bread. Taste: golden grahams cereal, with raisins, yeasty spice, some dark honey, some additional fruitiness and then a hint of roasted nuts. Finish: smooth, slightly fuzzy, with just enough tingling carbonation and yeasty spice to brush the palate clean. Notes: Outstanding. Loved this beer. Flavors were perfectly balanced, and the palate was likewise perfect.

i am not an expert on the heavier, stronger belgian beers as i try to avoid the ones that taste more like wine than beer...but even though this one packs an alcohol content wallop, the flavor was rich and deep. i really like it. possibly a new favorite and i may even become more adventurous when it comes to trying these heftier styles of belgian beer in the future.

Dark red color with small head. Lots of carbonation. Good malt flavors and hops to balance it , yet it still has the traditional spicyness of a good dubbel. Full body and flavor with a smooth aftertaste.

Flying Fish Belgian Style Dubbel ABV: 5% IBU: ? Calories: 150 Volume: 12 fl oz Glass: tulip Purchased at: Sherwood Liquors, Ewing, NJ Price per fl oz: $8 / 72 fl oz = $0.11 per fl oz Consumed on/at: home on March 19th, 2008 sensory first impression: Iíve had this many times at Firkin Tavern on Tap, and enjoyed it as one of the best crafty tap beers there. I enjoy this every time. I realized recently that itís the beautiful dark mixture of hops coffee and banana that I enjoy so much. Itís nice that it takes it easy on the ABV, too. Itís not a golden monkey style brew - more balanced, more refined, and more easily drinkable than the monkey, though there are times only Victoryís brew will do. Thin head. A beautiful deep red to golden color. Bottle conditioned, yet very clear. A yeasty, hoppy, fruity enjoyment. Aroma/Olfactory: Malt flavor is: coffee and nuts Hop flavor is: resinous, thick and luscious. Very floral, darkly grapefruit citrusy. Yeast flavor is: thoroughly doughy, moldy, and dirty. Other flavors include: alcohol, banana, raisin, vanilla, walnut. Heavy cherry sourness in the aftertaste. Visuals/Appearance: Color is: pale, amber, orange, red and fiery. Darth Maulís Lightsaber. Liquid is: clear Head and lace are: thin, slightly off white, and lace is very nice. Taste/Flavor: Maltiness or Sweetness level is: heavy Hoppiness or Bitterness level is: medium Sour level is: medium Palate/Tactile: Body or Mouthfeel is: full Texture is: creamy, sticky, thick, tissue paper Carbonation is: average Finish is: long Overall experience: A beautiful and wonderful beer. A fruity joint, with serious dark and sour undertones. This is easily one of my favorite beers, though average in its consumability, price, and availability on tap. A winner all around.
