COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From our second runnings from our imperial espresso porter. We ran off the remaining wort into the kettle then added 110 lbs of Belgian candi sugar, and hopped the beer with styrian goldings, mt rainier, and amarillo hops. The wort was then pitched with a Belgian yeast and allowed to ferment at a high temperature giving the beer a great Belgian "funky" aroma.

Draft @ Capone’s: Poured an amber color with a nice head. The aroma was sweet dark fruits, roasted coffee, and some vanilla. The flavor was dark fruit, sugar, sweet roasted malts and a hint of caramel. Overall, an interesting brew, easy to drink and can drink lots!

Muddy brown with thin white head. Coffee aroma. A bit roasty with a hit of malt sweetness, a bit dry finishing, not overly flavorful or memorable.

From the tap poured brown with a small amount of head. Nice spicy malty flavor with a quick finish.

On cask at the Iron Hill Newark "Cask & Ye Shall Receive"-Murky brown pour w/a little but of lacing to it. Weak hop flavor w/traces of stale bread & brown sugar-not really a good combination. Generally not a fan of "Second Runnings" beers-don’t reuse your leftovers from one batch to make something else! This one didn’t change my mind any, worst beer @ the fest IMHO.

On cask at the Iron Hill "Cask & Ye Shall Receive" fest as a Flying Fish "Belgian Imperial Mild," whatever in the heck that style is. I guess this is the right beer to rate on here. Pour was murky brown with some orange aspects to it. The aroma was funky Belgian candi, bready, peanut butter. The flavor was way funked out with smokey peanut butter the best way to describe each confused sip I took. I tried to rephrase it, discover something different, ask for a sanity check in between, etc... But roasty, smokey peanut butter was the most prominent element with some phenolic spicing underneath and a light chocolate presence too. Mouthfeel was fairly full bodied, hearty. Overall, I couldn’t finish this, not a good combination of flavors.

On draft at Capones. Pours a dark mahogany with a medium off white head. Aroma of sweet malt, light herbs and spice. Taste of malt, spice and light herbs.

I assumed this was made from the second runnings of Flying Fish’s excellent Belgian Dubble, but came over to Ratebeer.com and found out it was from the Porter. Wow, very chocolatey, and tastes like a much bigger beer. Poured with a huge pillowy head, which slowly dissipated into nothing. Leaving a bare trace of lacing along the way. Aroma is and overall flavor is very Belgian. This beer complemented my meal very well and would love to drink this regularly, if offered. This was seriously good.

[Draft @ Capones] Poured a lightly hazy, purple amber color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruits, citrus, Belgian spices, cocoa, and candy sugar. Taste of dark fruits, spices, earthy yeast, cocoa, caramel malt, and a fruity finish.

On tap at Capone’s. Poured a deeper amber, almost brown, color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of roast, coffee, lightly sugary, and herbal. Tastes of the same herbalness, brown sugar, roast, chocolate, and caramel. Somewhat earthy too. Lacing left on the glass.

Tap at Capones. Pours a deep brown with amber notes and a medium creamy off white head that left nice lacing. Aroma of spicy Belgian yeast esters, coffee and vanilla. Flavor of the same, really earthy.
