3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 boto (1581) - Granby, Connecticut, USA - JAN 5, 2002
UPDATED: JUL 1, 2003 The beer is a bit of a coppery color. Somewhat of a head, but little retention. Slightly citric/hop aroma. A bit of maltiness to the taste. Tasty, but lacking the stronger hop characteristics of a true ESB. There are better ones are definitely out there.

Decent at best. Maybe I am too accustomed to the American Hopped ESB’s? Burnt cinnamon toast aroma and very sweet flavors of caramel. I agree with Aubrey, this is a little too sweet and wouldn’t want more than one. Thanks to Aubrey in sending me this.

i was expecting to hate this beer because i am nowhere near hop-head status.
i was pleasantly surprised. granted, if the beer is supposed to be quite bitter then it would be a disappointment.
dark golden--almost reddish, in color. creamily frothed head, sort of a vanilla/apple aroma and flavor. only a slight bitter aftertaste. i quite liked this beer.

Not really bitter enough to be called a bitter. Some bitter, some hops, but not much character really. Really quite thin in texture. A disappointment.

Amber with a short persistent head and hoppy aroma. Bitterness is not overwhelming, allowing the hop flavoring and subtly roasted flavor to make their way through. Slightly dry finish. Not a favorite style of mine, but a pleasant drinking experience nonetheless.

Dark amber color with a creamy off-white head. The aroma has a fruity hop bitterness to it. The hoppy nature is only present in the first few sips though, then it mellows quite considerably. A lighty nutty and bitter, with yeasty undertones, a very nice ESB.

One of the better ESB’s this side of the pond.

An exceptionally well balanced ESB,
with good malt sweetness paired
with a background of bitterness.
There’s also a nice hint of hop
aroma. Maybe a bit lacking on
body for an ESB but other very good.
