COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wild Rice Double IPA. The fourth stop on our multi-year trip to explore New Jersey takes us to one of the most maligned places in the state- the Hackensack Meadowlands. It’s the place usually identified with landfills, pipelines, mob burials (alleged) and sports teams that say they’re from New York. Although no longer home to forests of giant cedars and salt hay marshes teeming with aquatic life, the Meadowlands is still an amazingly diverse ecosystem providing vital animal and plant habitat. In a nod to a once common food plant here, we’ve brewed this beer with wild rice. We also used brown and white rice, as well as two malts. Rice helps the beer ferment dry to better showcase the five different hops we’ve added. Lots and lots of them. We then dry-hopped this Double IPA with even more-generous additions of Chinook and Citra hops to create a nose that hints at tangerine, mango, papaya and pine.

Very interesting DIPA. The rice gives the body a lightness without being watery and the hop flavour comes a bit later from mid to finish. The strong alcohol is not perceptible. I love the hoppiness but the malt taste while decent is not fantastic. Kudos to flying fish for trying something different and still making a pretty good beer using rice unlike the more famous and barely drinkable example of a rice beer.

Clear golden body, medium to thin white head, sparse lacing. Clean tangerine and pine with a nice dry pale malt base. Medium bodied with moderate to assertive carbonation, lively bitterness and dry finish.

Bottle. Crystal clear pale gold with a soapy white head. Very fragrant aroma - citrus, tropical fruit and caramel malt. Taste is similar - plenty of hops mellowed by caramel malts. Dry, clean, bitter aftertaste. Medium body, nice crisp carbonation. Overall, a nice DIPA.

12 oz bottle - i forget where from. they say the rice helps to ferment dry, and while i have no idea, i am all in. a very nice, extremely dry, very hoppy. clean clear taste. I am usually not a flying fish fan, but I recommend this to others who may feel the same way. the best flying fish offering I have had. recommended.

Straw gold color out of the bottle with a fluffy while head. Nice tropical fruit and citrus nose. This is an easy drinking IIPA with ripe tropical fruit, mango and tangerine flavors. Nice caramel sweetness under all the hops. Tasty beer.

Tap pour @ 12 West in Montclair. Very good IPA. Of the Exit series from Flying Fish, this is probably their best ... so far. Concept of rice IPA for Meadowlands is inspired. Execution was good. Less bitter aftertaste than most IPAs. Taste mostly citus. Worth a try!

Pours clear yellow-gold with a soapy-bubbled white head that leaves wet lacing. Very pale for an IIPA. Aroma is overripe tropical citrus -orange or tangerine - and a bit of bread/grain. Taste is a bit more thin than I expected. Some grain and more tropical citrus notes - sweeter floral into a more dominant bitter grapefruit. The citrus folds into a piney hop bitter finish. Some floral hop notes linger in the aftertaste. It all sits on a noticable bed 'o booze. Quite dry. Decent enough and not redundant. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled. Nice floral and citrus notes upfront, seems to peter out into strong rice taste after. An interesting idea, but a little disappointing.

Bottle: Cloudy, opaque golden color with some orange-ish outlining shades, capped with a huge, bright white, nimbus head; chunky, sticky, leaving damn good lacing behind. Aroma has notes of peppery hops, mild phenol, slight mint, & faint menthol? Underneath lies softer notes of citrus, grapefruit, mango, pineapple, & sticky pine tree. The front end mint & spiciness blunts the citric & tropical aspects a little too much. Taste is just a touch watery up front... white pepper, vibrant citrus, grapefruit peel, mild mango. Not as peppery spiced as the nose would suggest, but the fruit characteristics are toned down as well. Crisp, dry, mild pine finish. Actually kind of "light" for an 8.2% ABV DIPA. Tasty overall, but I’d like a little more from it... including refinement of the nose.
