COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wild Rice Double IPA. The fourth stop on our multi-year trip to explore New Jersey takes us to one of the most maligned places in the state- the Hackensack Meadowlands. It’s the place usually identified with landfills, pipelines, mob burials (alleged) and sports teams that say they’re from New York. Although no longer home to forests of giant cedars and salt hay marshes teeming with aquatic life, the Meadowlands is still an amazingly diverse ecosystem providing vital animal and plant habitat. In a nod to a once common food plant here, we’ve brewed this beer with wild rice. We also used brown and white rice, as well as two malts. Rice helps the beer ferment dry to better showcase the five different hops we’ve added. Lots and lots of them. We then dry-hopped this Double IPA with even more-generous additions of Chinook and Citra hops to create a nose that hints at tangerine, mango, papaya and pine.

Bottle. Cloudy goldish amber. What a delicious aroma - spicy, citrusy, the beach. Lively. Flavor intensely citrus, lime and orange, bitterness almost perfectly balanced although I don’t mind it slightly off center. I just love the smell - woodsy more than piney, and maybe it’s just sentimental, but it smells like ... New Jersey, and not the part you’re thinking. The pine barrens, the shore. This should have been a Parkway Exit 0 release or something. Nice lacing. It’s a little thinner than I’d like. Flying Fish is really setting new standards with the Exit series. Exit 4 is excellent, Exit 1 was quite good and now Exit 16 - these are all better than anything they’ve done before IMO.

Bottle thanks to swalden28 (with the assist from ericandersnavy). Pours with a small white head and a hazy golden body. Aroma is hoppy, bitter, citrus and dank. Taste is bitter and pine. Not much balance, and not a super interesting hop profile from the citra (the other c-hop dominates). Medium carbonation.

On tap at Capone’s. Pours an almost clear yellow gold with a thin creamy white head. Big clean pine with a light citrus background and a nice subtle caramel malt backbone. Medium bodied with a lot of hop presence. Big and earthy. Finishes up with a long lingering tannic grapefruit bitterness. Nice.

Bought this 750 for me and james. had a nice hazy orangey gold pour. Moderate white head that lasted for a little bit. Aroma was sweet and full of hops and some fruits. Flavor was hops, bitter, with after taste of citrus and sweetness. Nice on the palate.

Bottle courtesy of Tony. Pours a bright, hazy orange with nice foamy white head. The aroma is sweet hops - mostly grapefruit, pine, and mango. The mouth feel is medium with a nice complexity with notes of bitter grapefruit, pine, and a dry finish.

Shared with Ryan before clash of titans. This beer was awesome. Delicious grapefruit, mango, and pine taste.. Commericial description is spot on. Mouthfeel was juicey and bubbly. Such a great dipa, probably one of the least astrigent and bitter too... A totally different approach on this badass style. Get this now.

This was a great beer. You could taste the sweetness of the rice through it all, and it was quite enjoyable. It was kind of a balance or off-setting flavor for the hops. Definitely has some floral, fruity notes like an (d)IPA should but that rice made it different for me, and different in a good way. It poured without much fanfare though and the aroma wasn’t as strong as some can be, but there was definitely that sweetness to its aroma as well.

On draft at Capones. Pours a light golden orange with a medium sized frosty white head. Aroma of light tangerine, bitter hops, faint pine and floral tones. Taste of light tangerine, bitter hops and floral tones. Nice and refreshing.
