3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Foxbush (1003) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAR 16, 2013
12 oz bottle This was given to me by a friend. This is only my second beer from this New Jersey brewery. The D/IPA poured a slightly hazy golden color with a small white head and no lacing. The aromas are more complex, pine, floral, and juicy citrus. It is hard to peg the the various tastes. They seem to blend together with none standing out. The ABV was perfect and suited the ale well. The carbonation was soft. This is nice ale with an interesting finish of bitter fruit.

Amber pour with small white head and some lacing. Aroma of citrus (mostly mango) and hint of caramel. Flavor is citrusy with more malts, slightly bitter and slightly sweet. Medium body, crisp finish with the alcohol well masked. Might be my new favorite DIPA.

My favorite Flying Fish IPA. Clear golden with nice white head! Excellent lacing. Aromas of orange, mango, pineapple, and caramel. Tastes of citrus, pine, mango, and pineapple. Very light for a DIPA I guess cause of the rice, but really easy drinking and refreshing!

Very solid double, how I like them smooth, good citrus aroma and flavor. Smooth, good body. Don’t really appreciate how the rice changes the recipe but well done.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. Immediately I was hit with huge tropical fruits. Upon tasting more tropical fruits, little to no malt character. Very easy drinking. I really enjoyed the showcase of American hops.

Bottle:   Dirty straw, light to moderate sudsy white head, spotty lacing.   Musty hop nose, smells very much like an English IPA or English Pale Ale.   Not surprisingly, tastes much like it too.   Not a big malt bill, nor a hop bomb, this one seems very much subtle.   Too subtle to be an IIPA in my book.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Musty and somewhat stale hop finish, little bitterness, little sweetness.   Seems English all the way.   Not what I was expecting at all!
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 23, 2013
My Bottom Line:
Citrus meringue, floral honey and wild rice whispers move with agility into balanced grassy bitterness for this compelling twist on the Double IPA style.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A layer of foam tops the misty pale blond.
-The wild rice seems to convey delicate mushroom-like angles.
-The body is predictably slender, which increases drinkability.
-Alcohol is well hidden.
-Despite its potency, this is a beautiful, fragile creature.
