COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wild Rice Double IPA. The fourth stop on our multi-year trip to explore New Jersey takes us to one of the most maligned places in the state- the Hackensack Meadowlands. It’s the place usually identified with landfills, pipelines, mob burials (alleged) and sports teams that say they’re from New York. Although no longer home to forests of giant cedars and salt hay marshes teeming with aquatic life, the Meadowlands is still an amazingly diverse ecosystem providing vital animal and plant habitat. In a nod to a once common food plant here, we’ve brewed this beer with wild rice. We also used brown and white rice, as well as two malts. Rice helps the beer ferment dry to better showcase the five different hops we’ve added. Lots and lots of them. We then dry-hopped this Double IPA with even more-generous additions of Chinook and Citra hops to create a nose that hints at tangerine, mango, papaya and pine.

12 oz bottle, clear yellow pour with creamy white smallish head, smells of mango citrus and sugary sweet, medium body but a bit syrupy, tiny faint carbonation, tastes same as smell, the rice actually does do nice to bring out the hop characteristics yet not bitter, bought per a referral, don’t typically like Flying Fish, not sure if this really is a DIPA but this was pretty good, would say satisfying, not a house beer as to much like candy

Pours a semi clear light yellow pale golden color. Nose is citrus with predominant apricot and mango, with papaya as well. Taste is full of flavor with tropical fruits, and pine. Very drinkable despite the ABV, and enough sweetness not to make it cloying. Finish is bitter sweet with some slight lingers. Drinks like a tropical fruit punch. Nice , Quaff Score 7 / 10

Pours golden with a white head and nice aroma of citrus and mango. Taste is bittersweet, lots of citrus, hops, pine, and mango with a bitter, dry finish. Very tasty, nice DIPA

Great mango and citrus on the nose. Tastes as clean as it looks. Goes well with Thai food, but could be nice as a summer supper as well. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled. Slightly cloudy honey-colored pour with a fine white head. Decent amount of lacing. Nose is caramel malt and citrusy hops. Candied grapefruit is what comes to mind. Flavor is dominated by the hops. The dry finish from the rice really lets them shine. Almost like eating a grapefruit, down to the bitter aftertaste. There is enough of a caramel malt backbone to this one to keep things balanced though. Medium full mouthfeel. A very tasty DIPA. the alcohol is well hidden by the excellent balance of malty and hoppy goodness. I'm also pleased that Flying Fish is selling these as six packs. I get tired of brewers selling four packs of their higher gravity offering at ridiculous price points. I might be paying a little more for this one, biut at least I get six of them. ---Rated via Beer Buddy from my iPad.

Bottle. Moderate malt and hop aromas of grain, grapefruit and lemon, light soap for the yeast, with hints of pineapple and white pepper. Head is small, fizzy/frothy, white, with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is light yellow/amber. Palate is faintly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is on the lighter side of medium, slick with a lively carbonation and finishes lightly alcoholic. Nice DIPA aromas but a little flat on DIPA flavors. Still a really nice drinking beer with grapefruity hops

Bottle; poured a clear, dull gold with a small whitish head. Aroma of earth, fruit, bread and funk. Flavor was more boisterous on the hops. Earthy and fruity. Alcohol was in a good amount. Ok.

Capone’s, Norristown sixer: Pours amber with a whitish head. Aroma is citrus, with a bunch of peach, and some other fruits. Taste is bitter and very fruity. I don’t really know where the rice is coming from or what it is doing, but mostly this is just a complex, but easy drinking DIPA that has very flavorful hops and a nicely balanced malt backbone.
