COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You are holding the inaugural release in a multi-year brewing experiment-to brew a series of beers as diverse as the great state of New Jersey. Our theme is the state-long artery that connects us. Each beer will focus on the unique aspect of an individual exit, whether an ingredient or event. The journey begins at Exit 4- right up the street from the Flying Fish brewery. As one of the first craft brewers to embrace Belgian-style beers, we’ve chosen to start with a Belgian trippel, finished with plenty of American hops. Note the hazy golden hue and the aroma of citrus with hints of banana and clove. Then taste the Belgian malt flavors and a subdued bitterness in the finish. Bottle conditioned, this beer will develop as it ages. Enjoy.

Dull tan and not much head. The nose is quite spicy, with light alcohol and clean bready malts. The taste is sweeter than the aroma lets on, with lots of papaya/pineapple tropical fruits, alcohol, background malt and spices. the alcohol dries the finish out a lot.

Bottle from Total Wine. Hazy tangerine color. Thin sliver head. Very fruit juicy aroma, pressed cantaloupe with ripe sweet juicy tangelo. But simple, nothing beyond that but alcohol’s fumes, no spices or anything. Wow, it tastes like a mimosa it has so much orange juice character. Even a pulpy mouthfeel. Hot in the finish, but that doest detract from it at all. Keeps things dry and matches the acidic feel that the illusion of orange juice gives. If anything, it’s one dimensional, the orange overpowers everything else. Certainly an interesting rendition, and certainly dry. Not what I was expecting.

Tampa, FL - Total Wine - 12 oz bottle. Murky dark orange pour, slight white head that clings to the edge of the glass and leaves a bit of lacing. Sweet bubble-gum like aroma with brief hints of apricots. Flavor is chewy and full bodied with some clove notes, some banana a bit of apricot fruit sweetness. Nicely textured thick mouthfeel. Pretty solid.

12oz bottle to glass. Something came out of the bottle - seems to be a piece of hop. Pours very murky. Golden caramel color with a decent head. Beer got better as it warmed up. Silky smooth going down with a strong alcohol kick on the back end.

Bottle to my Duvel glass (thanks RamyG4). Pours hazy amber with a nice foamy soapy white head that fades to a soapy film. Aroma is yeast and fruity esters with a little funk and white pepper. Taste is boozy yeast and malt with lemon some apple and rind and finishes with pepper. Palate is medium slick with a lively carbonation and finishes dry and warming.

Sampled fromall 12oz bottle. Poured hazy yellow with a good head. Aroma is slightly grassy with a yeasty candy aroma. Flavor starts bitter but then is cut with a sweet candied sugar and Belgian flavor. Body is medium and finish leaves a sweet taste behindbetween also lots of alcohol warmth . Its a good balance between sweet and bitter

Poured from a bottle a hazy golden color with a moderate foamy head. Nice herbal and banana like aroma. A strong citrusy, hoppy taste that lingers on the palate. A bit of an boozy alcohol finish. Not bad for tripel. Though I have had better.

Bottle. Clear golden color with ivory sheen. Bready dusty pils malt, light fruit, light clove, dry earthy hop aromas. Light to medium bodied. Nice dry hay, dry spice flavors with dusty pale malts, spicy alcohol twang to finish--very good

This is a very great smelling beer with a strong caramel characteristic. It’s very nutty, toasty and bread-y with a hint of herbal flavor (most likely the clove). The malt is strong and the finish is a bit bitter. So I’d say it’s a top favorite but I don’t know which of the same variety I would choose from in my favorites.

Somebody said gimme hops in my tripel and damn did they do it something lovely. A damp floral earthy hop aroma dominates with just a touch of bright tangerine to liven it up. The flavor is wooly and full of mineral tang. With all that earth and just the finish showing the the citrus hoppiness, this might of been a bit dry if not for the full, round, summer corn sweetness on the top of the palate. Really nice beer that seems like more of a belgian ale to me than a tripel, but regardless of any constraints, this is GOOD BEER. Thank you Flying Fish. 2011 12 oz.
