Commercial Description:
You are holding the inaugural release in a multi-year brewing experiment-to brew a series of beers as diverse as the great state of New Jersey. Our theme is the state-long artery that connects us. Each beer will focus on the unique aspect of an individual exit, whether an ingredient or event. The journey begins at Exit 4- right up the street from the Flying Fish brewery. As one of the first craft brewers to embrace Belgian-style beers, we’ve chosen to start with a Belgian trippel, finished with plenty of American hops. Note the hazy golden hue and the aroma of citrus with hints of banana and clove. Then taste the Belgian malt flavors and a subdued bitterness in the finish. Bottle conditioned, this beer will develop as it ages. Enjoy.

Bottle shared at Capones. Pours a hazy golden orange with a medium creamy and bubbly white head that laced. Aroma of floral and citrus hops, candy sugar, bready malt, some Belgian yeast esters and fruity notes. Flavor of bready and very lightly toasted malt, candy sugar, a nice mix of citrus and floral American hops, nice and dry. Love the hoppy Trippels!

THOUGHTS: Really nice. Perfectly balanced. With all the hops it truly was and American Tripel. If it is a high ABV it hid it well. Not bad even when it got very warm. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a light sort of orange copper like a brand new penny with really nice carbonation and a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was light to moderate malt, moderate grapefruit hops, lighter resin hops, moderate yeast slight funk, honey, candy sugar and oranges (both fruit and rind). The initial flavor was sweet, acidic and bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and more bitter with and average to long duration. There was malt, candy sugar, grapefruit and orange hops, yeast, some funk and earthiness. The medium body was dry with very fizzy carbonation and a dry and light astringent finish.

The first of hopefully a long series of special beers. At least 18 plus which is the length of the NJ turnpike. Cloudy yellow pour. Aroma of fresh fruit and spice. Taste is a bit sour with some typical Belgian spice flavor. Nice dry finish. Alcohol is noticed as it warms although I don’t know what the ABV is. Really good. I’m going to get some more and age them.

The initial taste is that of spicy citrus hop bitterness followed by some caramel malt sweetness and some almost hidden banana/clove mixture, but it is the spiciness of the hops that dominates here, for now. However as I finish more and more of this bottle the orange becomes a more pronounced flavor.

750ml. bottle served into Duvel glass. Pour is a light golden with a nice fluffy white head. Aromas of banana, oak, melon, and spice. Flavor is solid with citrus, spice, and a nice floral hop note. I thought this one did have a sharp hit of alcohol in the finish. I am going to lay a few bottles down and see what happens.

Visually stunning orange body, but less than stellar head dissipates too quickly. Aroma is as expected orange cloves, honey, and banana, and taste is much the same. Very well done version of the style. Very hoppy, mindful of Chouffe Houblon Dobbelen. Delicious. Points off for being a gusher and quick head, but otherwise, fantastic.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy gold, with a white head. Aroma is hops, banana, spices, and a little honey. Flavor is hops, spices, banana, honey, yeast, and alcohol. A nice one from Flying Fish.
