COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You are holding the inaugural release in a multi-year brewing experiment-to brew a series of beers as diverse as the great state of New Jersey. Our theme is the state-long artery that connects us. Each beer will focus on the unique aspect of an individual exit, whether an ingredient or event. The journey begins at Exit 4- right up the street from the Flying Fish brewery. As one of the first craft brewers to embrace Belgian-style beers, we’ve chosen to start with a Belgian trippel, finished with plenty of American hops. Note the hazy golden hue and the aroma of citrus with hints of banana and clove. Then taste the Belgian malt flavors and a subdued bitterness in the finish. Bottle conditioned, this beer will develop as it ages. Enjoy.

What a great beer. Holy cow some pretentious beer shmucks here. i can throw out superfluous terms too. this is a damn good beer. if you like lagers, a good intro into ale styles. Seems like FF used a good deal of Amarillo hops with a kick of citrus, ample seafoam head, big citrus fruits/cardamom on the nose...aint i cool. Hell of a beer. Great offering of an American style tripel- it’s not a traditional Belgian tripel, just an endeavour. That said, this is a truly great American beer, that as a tripel, can most certainly knockout Chouffe’s popular one. I would even take this over a St. Bernardus and other Belgians. To rate this lower than Golden Monkey or Unibroue seems like an awful lot of snobbery. Serious 5’s to Flying Fish for taking a chance and kicking ass- just try this beer and forget the ratings. -a NJ native

Pours with less head than expected. Some black flakes. Nice bready aroma mixed with a pleasant american hop aroma. Taste is fairly mild, juicy, sweet, slightly bready. Easy drinking Sunday beer. The high abv wasn’t really expected or necessary. Enjoyability 4.5/5

This tripel pours a cloudy, dark gold color with a soft, cascading head. The nose is balanced with a creamy note, malt and light hops. The flavors are extremely delicious and well balanced. At first, I taste the malt, then the hops take over. But then I get more malt in the finish. The body is crisp, smooth and drinkable. The alcohol content is very well hidden. I also got a bit of fruit toward the finish. This is definitely one of the best tripels I have tasted so far!

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. Aroma of fruit and malt. Taste is sweet but moderately hoppy with a good balance. Very drinkable and a good beer. Definitely like this one.

Very good beer with a fair amount of citrus. There is no alcohol flavor at all. I had this out of the bottle from a six pack.

Strong full bodied Tripel backed with hops. Banana bread yeast flavor gives this sweet Belgian a well rounded flavor. Well done Flying Fish! At 9.5% alcohol it reminds me of the Belgian Dubbel when Flying Fish first debuted many moons ago. Ironically I sampled the Flying Fish in a Dogfish Head goblet.

Bottle shared at Capones. Pours a hazy golden orange with a medium creamy and bubbly white head that laced. Aroma of floral and citrus hops, candy sugar, bready malt, some Belgian yeast esters and fruity notes. Flavor of bready and very lightly toasted malt, candy sugar, a nice mix of citrus and floral American hops, nice and dry. Love the hoppy Trippels!

UPDATED: JUN 25, 2011 I forked over two Hamiltons for a six pack because this beer had won the Washington Post beer madness competition. I was expecting to be disappointed. It is an extremely excellent beer. The taste is mellow and yet complex. Very full to start and changes to an agreeable bitter aftertaste as it clears the throat. The alcohol is almost imperceptible. A nice pleasant summer beer, but I’d drink this any day. I usually do not like citrusy beers, bu the slight citrus here is just right, more of a citrusy hoppiness than a fruity citrus.

THOUGHTS: Really nice. Perfectly balanced. With all the hops it truly was and American Tripel. If it is a high ABV it hid it well. Not bad even when it got very warm. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a light sort of orange copper like a brand new penny with really nice carbonation and a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was light to moderate malt, moderate grapefruit hops, lighter resin hops, moderate yeast slight funk, honey, candy sugar and oranges (both fruit and rind). The initial flavor was sweet, acidic and bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and more bitter with and average to long duration. There was malt, candy sugar, grapefruit and orange hops, yeast, some funk and earthiness. The medium body was dry with very fizzy carbonation and a dry and light astringent finish.
