COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The long-delayed eighth stop on our multi- year trip brings us to, coincidentally, Exit 8 and celebrates what puts the “Garden” in Garden State. To celebrate Exit 8, one of our big farming areas, we’ve brewed a beer that uses a lost local ingredient: chestnuts–and a popular current one: local honey. This full-bodied hybrid Belgian-style brown ale brings forward a nutty character from the chestnuts, accented by the flavors of honey, roasted barley and oat flakes. There’s a nice spiciness from the Mt. Rainier hops while Chinooks add a touch of pine. Fuggles and Columbus round out the hop profile. Exit 8 pairs perfectly with hearty foods like roast pork, sausages or a nice aged gouda. Bottled conditioned, 8.3% abv

750 bottle-pours mahogany and a cascading tight retaining tan head that laces. Aroma is roasty/cocoa-medium/dark malt, nutty, earthy. Taste is sweet roasty/cocoa/slight root licorice-medium/dark malt, nutty, earthy/spice hops. A bit earthier and roastier than my taste but nicely done.

Bottle shared by b3shine. Poured clear dark brown color with an average frothy white head that lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate complex toasted malt and earthy hop aroma. Medium to full body with a dry smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted bittersweet flavor with a solid bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid complex beer.

Dark brown pour with a khaki head. Sweet sugar prune juice on the nose. Cardboard, nuts, molasses, and grass. Mild grass, too. Meh. The flavor is disappointing as well. Cardboard, prunes, sugar, and cocoa. Toasted malt, nuts, and a bit of grass, roast, and molasses.

Bottle... Pours nearly black with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head that diminishes quickly. The bouquet is a fusion of raisins, dates, fudge and clove. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Well-balanced, but the flavor is odd. It’s a mélange of cocoa, dried plums, dates, figs and minerals. Nutty, spicy, minerally finish.
