An original American pale ale, our XPA highlights the subtle, sophisticated flavors and aromas of our Midwestern two-row malt and imported aromatic and Munich malts. Washington-grown Mt. Hood and Fuggles hops create an extremely balanced beer with a beautiful straw color.

Bottle. The pour was a cloudy straw yellow with a small (1 finger or less) white fizzy head that dissipated quickly down to a small collar and possessed poor lacing. The aroma was of a faint biscuit malt, a light floral hop and a sweet yeast with notes of citrus (orange and lemon), caramel and a sweet apricot odor. The taste was a mild malty sweet with a hint of caramel and a slight fruity presence at first, and then got a very mild hop flavor with a light citrus note at the end. The flavor faded very quickly and was quite mild, leaving behind a very lightly hoppy sweet watery taste. Mouthfeel was light in body and watery in texture with a fizzy carbonation. Overall a brew that possesses a very mild fruity hop flavor with just a hint of a sweetness and a low ABV, great light session beer...

Clear yellow appearance with a small white head and light lacing. Subtle biscuit-like aroma with some herbal hops in the background. Flavor of toasted malts with a modest amount of spicy, herbal hops. Medium to light bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel and an average length finish.

A pretty mild-mannered pale ale. Goes down easy, not overly hoppy or piney. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

"another average offering - nothing bad. nothing stands out. a little cereal malt, a little sweet, and a bit of floral and bittering hops, but not very aromatic."

Bottle. Muted nose. Average carbonation. Straw yellow color - not my favorite. All beer flavors are mild and muted. No off-odors or flavors. Pleasant, but definitely not one I’d buy in the future.

Faint caramel malt aroma. Taste is a plain mild hops with a bit if a grass malt taste. Nothing special.

Pours an almost clear golden yellow with a fluffy head. Some peach aroma. Taste has some bitterness with a dry finish. A bit too bitter to be a refreshing summer ale.

Drought. Rich yellow with whitish small foamy head, doughy aroma, low carbonation, slightly bitter taste with hoppy flavor, abrupt finish. Not very remarkable.

I’m not sure why this has such poor ratings. I thought it was a better than average pale ale with a good floral aroma, some spicy sweet hops bite and a medium body.

DATE TASTED: May 4, 2014... GLASSWARE: Howard’s Pub pint... OCCASION: toilet--replaced; lawn--cut; bathroom--painted = beer time!... APPEARANCE: creamy white head that attractively flairs; dark golden straw-colored, evenly effervescent body; drains evenly... AROMA: vibrant citric (mostly orange with some melon and pear as well) and floral notes with some light caramel malts--accessible and intriguing... PALATE: soft, lagerish body,, equally creamy and thinly taut--sessionable and perfectly at home...TASTE: Flying Fish continues to leave me a happy consumer, as this pale ale a strong profile fits within the genre well and yet is memorable enough to e sought again--maybe not at the bottle shop, but in a restaurant or bar...
