COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For the first new beer to come out of the new brewery, we wanted to do something Jersey-centric. After the events of the superstorm we thought what better to help our state than to come up with a tasty brew with Jersey attitude and donate all proceeds (not just profit, but every darn cent) to grass-roots organizations helping rebuild in New Jersey. Hence the name Forever Unloved Sandy, which I think we all would prefer to abbreviate. For now, the beer will be draft-only, but we’ll see what happens. We’ll produce approximately 100 kegs of FU Sandy, sales of which will generate up to $50,000 directly towards a charity. The recipient of the F. U. Sandy funds will be a grassroots NJ-based charitable organization dedicated to Superstorm Sandy relief and chosen by Flying Fish fans via social media. To nominate a charity, email us. NOTE: This not a popularity contest, so one thoughtful email will be as effective as having everyone you know on Facebook email us. Thanks! The beer will be available beginning in February, exclusively on draft (no bottles at this point), throughout the New Jersey and Philadelphia region. F. U. Sandy is brewed with a 50/50 blend of Two Row Pale Malt and American White Wheat. It is hopped with experimental hop ADHA 483, donated by the American Dwarf Hop Association, which has never been used in a beer before this one. Muller and Head Brewer Casey Hughes expect a beautiful, tropical nose of mangoes and guavas that will accentuate the beer’s soft mouthfeel and contribute to a truly one-of-a-kind ale.

Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served a lightly hazed golden color with a two finger thick and billowy white head. The head fades relatively quickly leaving a decent level of ring foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is light overall and is of the biggest of a wheat cracker like aroma mixed with a bit of yeast and a moderate showing of some lemongrass smells. Some sweeter orange is there as well rounding out the wheat and lemongrass nicely. Taste – The taste begins with a wheat and more lemon like taste mixed with a bit of orange citrus. As the taste advances a little bit of a tasted bread flavor comes to the tongue. Along with the toasted bread some of the wheat fades with it being replaced by some flavors of a little bit of yeast and some grassy hop flavors. Toward the end the lemon and grass combined to produce a rather stronger lemongrass flavor and with a little bit of graininess coming to the tongue, a rather dry citrus wheat flavor is left to linger on the tongue Mouthfeel – The body of the beer one the slightly creamier side for a wheat beer of 6.2 % abv with a carbonation that is on the slightly lower side. While traditionally a higher carbonation and slightly thinner body may be more appropriate, the combination in this beer actually accentuated the wheat and grass over the fruit and overall made for a pretty nice feel. Overall – A rather easy drinking wheat beer. Nothing exceptional, but a nice drinker none the less.

Bottle. Slightly clouded bright gold. Aroma is crisp tangerine and melon with wheat. The taste adds dry pilsner malt characteristics and tropical fruit with a resin note and a hint of yeasty banana spice on the finish. High carb with a clean mouthfeel. The pilsner and wheat malts complement the fruity esters and hops very well. Nice job flying fish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thanks cfrancis for sharing this. Hazy light copper with a slightly off white head. Malt forward, fruity, wheat, light citrus, grassy. Out of place sweetness, moderate carbonation and mild+ body, interesting combination but not sure it works for me.

Bottle: Poured a dirty golden color ale with a relatively large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of nice wheat malt with some grassy hops notes and some light bubble-gum notes. Taste is dominated by really nice wheat malt with some light grassy hoppy notes with some light bubble-gum notes. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation. Very enjoyable wheat ale – brewer should not keep this one as a one-off.
