This strong golden ale showcases a variety of the ingredients and brewing methods that help differentiate Flying Fish beers. The Grand Cru is fermented at a higher temperature than our other beers adding an undercurrent of fruitiness (although there is no fruit in the beer). Very lightly filtered, the Grand Cru exhibits complex mouthfeel, strong malt flavors, a spicy hop presence and a soothing alcohol warmth, followed by a clean, dry finish. Bottle conditioned, it is excellent with food as well as served by itself.

chinchill (1887) - South Carolina, USA - JUN 17, 2013
12 oz., undated bottle served in a Belgina snifter. Complete pour but a thin coat of sediment remained on the bottom. The body is a hazy apricot-amber color with a short-lived, off-white head that quickly reduces to some thin film and a thin ring, leaving some small patches of sticky lacing. S: Very fruity aroma with a strong suggestion of canned mandarin orange, moderate yeastiness, and hints of pear, citrus and apple, Moderately spicy and peppery too. T: Lightly tart with a faint bitterness. Biscuits with fruit, with the fruits from the nose repeating here, along with a touch of ripe banana. Moderate amounts of spices and yeast. M: Near medium bodied with moderate carbonation. O: An enjoyable ale with some Belgian characteristics but not quite the quality (or price range) as the best Belgian counterparts.

NOt so much like a grand cru but was nice to taste and drink. After a while it changes its taste.

marcus (6511) - Sacramento, California, USA - MAR 10, 2013
Bottle from Total Wine, Sacramento. Pours cloudy golden with a modest off-white head and a fruity aroma. There is a slightly fruity caramel malt flavor with lots of spice and a mildly bitter finish.

Bottle. Pours mostly clear orange with a medium, creamy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is earthy and cellar fruity esters, cookie and grain malt with Belgian Candi sugar notes and spicy hops. Flavor is malt dominant with light hops and faint bitterness, spicy and peppery Belgian yeast phenols with fruity esters and a dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Odd aroma of spices and beef jerky. Bright gold, thin foam. Funky flavors of yeast, lemon, citrus and mango. Overall, this is decent. Strong citrus flavor. I’d give this a B- rating.

Nice beer....probably doesn’t want to be called nice. However it is. Pours a hazy straw color out of bottle. Aroma is of fruit and spice....a white head laces and sticks around.. Flavor wise it is not that heavy and creamy, it is very drinkable..would like to open another one of these.

Cinnamon smell and taste stronger than most winter seasonal. Rusty orange color. My favorite winter ale (so far).

Pours a bright golden hue. Has decent Belgian characteristics, but it’s a bit light. Nevertheless, it’s worth a try.
