COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This strong golden ale showcases a variety of the ingredients and brewing methods that help differentiate Flying Fish beers. The Grand Cru is fermented at a higher temperature than our other beers adding an undercurrent of fruitiness (although there is no fruit in the beer). Very lightly filtered, the Grand Cru exhibits complex mouthfeel, strong malt flavors, a spicy hop presence and a soothing alcohol warmth, followed by a clean, dry finish. Bottle conditioned, it is excellent with food as well as served by itself.

Just having a 3/2001 and it’s quite tart, a little hoppy and a strong citrus (think orange peel) bite. I like it!

Bottle to a snifter. Best by 4-15-14... Pours hazy gold without much head or lacing... Sweet malts and some fruitiness on the nose. Well balanced, dry finish... Might be a bit past it's prime.

Poured hazy straw color with a 1-finger white head. Aroma of caramel malt with a touch of earthy yeast. Medium body with a light syrupy thickness. Flavor of caramel malt with maybe a light note of candied fruit.

Aroma is a bit of a one-note sharpness signal, but everything else is a remarkably balanced symphony of luxury velvet mouthfeel, judicious spicing, non-overhoppiness (like basically all "Belgian ales" produced on the other side of the pond), and nice seasonal alcohol burn. Finish is perhaps too astringent and mouthfeel a bit too light/watery to break the four-point barrier, but it’s still one of the best to come out of NJ these days

Bottle at Fastelavn Smagning 2014 @ J&C’s beer palace, Jutland 28/02/14, acquired from Wegmans Downington. Lightly hazed golden orange with a trace of off white spotting and edgework. Nose is tangy fruit, candied orange peel, sugars, spice, yeasty notes. Taste comprises much the same, bitter dark fruit, toffee, light spice, yeast esters. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok Belgian affair but nothing I’d rush back to - good for the price point mind!

This beer has a bit of spice and a lot of sweetness. There is a little bit of a lemon and kumquat in the flavor. The carbonation lingers.
