blutt59 (521), Dallas, Texas, USA May 3, 2008 bottle, iced tea colored with a stouty roast taste, bright flavors of coffee, caramel and chocolate
coldbrewky (462), Saugerties, New York, USA Jul 26, 2008 Bottle in trade with Funknmilla. Pours a deep murky brown with no head. This is one of the few imperfections. If it would have looked nicer in the glass....... Nose is of sweet toffee, caramel and very ripe apricots. Not unpleasant at all. Full creamy body of chocolate malts with touches of black patent and even less coffee. CONGRADULATIONS!!! Just how I envison the use of coffee in brewing (see prior rants on coffee). My cat seems to enjoy this one to, as he keeps sniffing at the glass and sticking his paw in it and greedily likcking it clean.(3X) Body is surprisingly short for such a tasty package. A thin tone of hop tang for finish and aftertaste puts a smile on ones face. Thanks again Mr. Funk! brewandbbq (201), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jul 15, 2008 Pours dark brown, almost opaque, with a one inch head of tan froth.
Retention lasts several minutes, and the head subsides to a partial skim coat with some errant lacework.
Aromatics lead off with chocolate, vanilla, espresso, and dark caramel.
Some nougat and sweetish malt pulls through.
On the thicker side of medium bodied and slightly creamy. Lightish carbonation and a bit chewy.
The pallet starts with caramel-laced cocoa, mild espresso notes, and more vanilla.
Alcohol starts to warm and some sweet toffee arises.
Finishes with lingering caramel, vanilla, and chocolate. Slightly nutty.
Pretty tasty, but somewhat underwhelming. I was expecting more of everything in this one.
The espresso character is especially low as well as the "Imperial" profile. It’s also a bit thin.
radiomgb (1711), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jul 2, 2008 Deep brown in colour, thin beige coloured head, light lacing. The aroma was sweet, lots of dark chocolate, roasted malts, light coffee. The flavour is sweet, some roasted coffee, good amount of chocolate, creamy. Creamy and lightly roasty mouthfeel, medium/light body, medium carbonation. Finishes with a lingering sweetness.
This didn’t have the espresso that I was hoping for, quite simple. That being said, it was still enjoyable.
355ml bottle obtained in a trade with kkearn, thanks Keith.
Opened on February 2, 2008.
No date.
daknole (533), Plantation, Florida, USA Jun 30, 2008 bottle, thanks funknmilla! Dark brown almost black with a tan head. Smell was really nice. Malty, toasty, roasty and coffee with a touch of chocolate. Flavor was more like a rich scotch ale to me. sweet wtih tones of coffee and chocolate. Good beer! bdigi66 (408), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 12, 2008 Bottle: No pour on this one...no glass available dammit. I’m going to assume this is a dark brown/black brew and since I don’t really give two shits about appearance anyway we’ll just move on. Wicked espresso and chocolate aroma coming out of the bottle, some vanilla notes noted as well. Very smooth drinking on this, silky and medium-thick on the palate. Flavors consist of roasted malts, espresso bean, chocolate and vanilla bean. Outstanding given the conditions.
