New Jersey has always had a rich brewing heritage dating back to it’s founding by the English in 1664. To celebrate this anniversary we’ve brewed a historic-style: an English Stock Ale. Rich imported malts along with both historic and modern hops and a generous helping of blackstrap molasses makes for a hearty and complex flavor. The Cluster hops, the first variety cultivated in the US, add a piney aroma, a nod to the Pine Barrens, one of our state’s treasures.

Split bottle pour of golden liquid, white head. Nose is straw and hops, not too bitter but citrusy. Malted flavor with medium hop chasacter, clean citrus with being overly bitter. Fairly drinkable overall for sure

About a 1 inch thick head of bright white, fine bubbles. Sharp and biting aroma with some ashes, dried leaves, burnt toast and dried pine boughs. Color is a hazy dark copper. Rather dry and chalky mouthfeel. More dried grains, tea leaves, spicy hops. Light alchol presence. Lacking a bit of malt and sweetness for balance. Finishes dry and stings the tongue a bit. An ok brew.

Hazy copper pour with light tan head. Aroma of molasses and caramel malt. Rich malty flavors, some booze in the middle and a piney earthy hop finish. Very nice balanced beverage.

750 ml bottle. Pours a honey amber with a medium sized cream colored head. Aroma of bread malts, floral notes, piney hops and light hints of molasses. Taste of bread malts, hops, light pine, citrus and faint molasses.

The piney aroma is pleasant, but unfortunately might be the standout feature of this beer. Dull orange, thin to the point of watery. The flavor is more balanced once you allow the beer to warm enough for the caramel malt notes to emerge. Finish is long and bitter. Something to have with a pizza perhaps, but nothing very special.

Poured hazy orange-amber with a 2-finger off-white head. Aroma is of caramel-sweet malt and molasses, with a light piney hops note beneath. Body is medium and just a touch watery. Mildly dry finish. Flavor is of caramel mixed with piney hops. The sweetness of molasses appears at the back. Hoppier than I expected.

Poured into snifter a hazy deep gold. Aroma is Carmel malts, grassy hops, slightly piney like a walk in the Pines on a hot day , slightly toasted grass and pine resins. Taste is cereal, bready, toasted malts. An English profile. Pine bitterness in the finish but it is nicely soft. Body is light and smooth. Small white head and lace with mild carbonation. Very drinkable, well done, I enjoyed this one.

Pours a heady hazy dark golden, lots of sediment. Nose is piney hops, burnt sugars, some citrus, molasses. Taste is lots of piney hop, dry, spicy hop, bitter hop finish lingers. Reads more like an ESB than an old ale, malts hidden behind the hops. Not terrible, not what I want. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sampled at the RBSG 2014. It poured a clear golden color with an amber tint and a white head. The aroma was a little bready with cereal malts, floral notes and yeast notes. The taste was of malts with grassy hops, grapefruit and some toast. Thanks jtclockwork.
