COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A robust, smooth and full bodied with prominent chocolate notes. Five different malts from both the U.S. and Belgium and three varieties of hops (all from the Pacific Northwest) are required to give the beer its unique character.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2007 Bottle. For the money Flying Fish just doesn’t do it for me so this limits my expectations. The taste is decent but not very flavorfull. Decent body but not balanced well. Overall not a bad beer but not my favorite.

I may have gotten a bad batch of this, but I did not like the mix of hops that created this porter. It was very bitter, almost sour! It really was difficult to discern the chocolate flavor. A bad aftertaste was left.

Huge fizzy head with a sweet candy aroma. Sweet caramel taste. Not enough hoppiness to balance it out to make it a really good porter.

Massive, carbonated head that more resembles a Diet Pepsi than a creamy porter. A rather stale nose on this, which in turn deadens the sweet chocolate aroma that is somewhat noticeable underneath. Prickly, thin mouthfeel. Nice roastiness in the finish, but rather dissappointing otherwise.

Bottle sampled with Stegosaurus. Pours a dark brown with a medium sized lasting tan head, good aroma of roasted malts and chocolate, the taste is coffee-like and chocolate-like. I just wasn’t digging this one.

Wicked, and not in a good way. Almost opaque with mahogany coloring. Smells like OLIVES and has an overly sweet, artificial chocolate flavor with modest malt. Medium mouthfeel accompanies a plastic-like aftertaste. Yikes.

Strange roasty aroma, best described by delbomber as olives. A nutty, burnt malt taste, that isn’t bad, but not very good. and a crappy aftertaste. Not very impressive.

(03.26.06) Stout/porter sampling with Scott, Tony and Walt at DiCarlo’s, Mundelein, IL. 12 oz brown bottle as gift from Thaichile. Yeast bottle conditioned. Poured black with long-lasting medium sized tan head. No discernable carbonation. Faint malt aroma. Light-to-medium bodied beer that starts sweet malt flavor and chemical (plastic?) flavor. Finishes with light malt fade and metallic aftertaste. No discernable roasted malt flavor. Overly sweet, thin textured, and watery flavored. Chemical and metallic flavors were appalling. Does not adhere to a porter style-more like a brown ale. Bad bottle? This beer disappoints. Thanks Thaichile for the bottle.
