2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 corby112 (1904) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 19, 2012
Draft at The Pour House in Westmont, NJ.
Pours a very cloudy and very dark ruby red color that’s almost brown with dark burnt orange edges and one finger white head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Streaks of lacing left behind.
Slightly earthy aroma with floral hops and sweet malt notes. Kind of bland and takes a while to open up. Almost nothing detectable until it warns up significantly. Subtle grassy pine along with some caramel malt, toffee and faint fruit.
Fortunately tastes better than the nose would have you believe. Well balanced with dry, bitter hops that are countered by sweet malt notes. Slightly creamy texture adds fullness to the palate. Hints of resinous pine and faint citrus followed by caramel malt, toffee, hazelnut and dark fruit.

Pours amber with a white head. Aroma is nutty, piney and caramel. Taste is sweet with a medium hoppy bitterness. Smooth with somewhat sticky mouth feel. Overall this was solid, was not expecting such hoppy bitters.

Growler Togo pours a hazy amber with a khaki head. Grassy aromas of hops pine some bread and a bit of grapefruit rind and malts. Flavor is bitter with bits of bread coming through. Body is medium and finishes astringent and bitter

Draft at Blue Dog for my V-day lunch. Sorry but this is not Red Fish but more like orange/amber fish since it poured orange/amber with an average creamy to foamy off white head. Aroma was very bland and slightly boring with mostly grains showing up reminiscent of brown bread. The body had a medium mouthfeel with strong bubbly carbonation and a bitter and dry finish. Flavor is better than the aroma with lots of grains, cereal, bread crusts, dry toast, brown bread and some orange. Meh, it’s okay but nothing special.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 mansquito (1818) - washington, Washington DC, USA - MAR 18, 2012
Buckets, Jenkintown, PA tap ($?): Pours a red color with a mostly white head. Aroma has plenty of hops in it, with less on the malty side. This is basically a solid, hop-forward amber ale. Although the reviewer below me said that this is not sesionable, I found it to go down pretty easy. Well-balanced throughout. It was not, however, an exceedingly interesting beer.

This was a very thick and heavy red ale that took me a while to get through. I remember enjoying it but it is certainly not sessionable.

Draught at TJ’s: Aroma of malt, hops, pine, resin, and caramel malt. Poured very deep amber in color with a small, off-white/tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet and medium bitter. Tastes of malt, slight caramel, hops, pine, resin, florals, and Earth. Medium body. Sticky, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, hop, pine, resin finish is sticky an dry. 7%ABV is completely hidden throughout.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 alobar (1962) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 3, 2012
Clear amber color with a copious white head. Aroma of caramel malt, with nuts, pine, resin, and hops. Flavor of caramel malt, with pine, hops and hint of nuts. Very nice beer.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Capa (1633) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 1, 2012
Deep ruby red with a nice head. Aroma had nice caramel malts and a decent helping of spicy, pine hops. Medium, well carbonated body. Flavor was quite hoppy. Pine, resin, caramel malt, a bit of grapefruit and floral notes, too. Finish was dry and spicy. I don’t generally enjoy FF beers but this one was a great surprise. (Draught at Standard Tap during the release shindig)
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ben4321 (2223) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - FEB 25, 2012
Location: Draft at Cork City, 2/25/12
Aroma: The nose is decetly hoppy, with some caramel malts, and pine/resin
Appearance: This brew pours into the glass a mostly clear amber color with a small head
Flavor: The taste is decently balanced between the caramel malt sweetness and the hop bitterness
Palate: This one is fairly drinkable with a medium (leaning toward the light side) body, and a dryish finish
Overall Impression:
I thought this was a pretty solid offering from Flying Fish. It is pretty drinkable and reasonably balanced. I think they hit on what they were trying to do here. This is a solid hoppy red.
