Well, we tried naming this beer Scarlet Fever, but the Feds would not approve our label because it was also the name of a disease. Since we’re plumb out of time and other great name ideas, we’re calling this West Coast hoppy red ale, Red Fish. Columbus, Chinook and Cascade hops give the beer a robust piney nose. Two-row, crystal and cara-red malts give the beer a malty background and a 7% abv.

Tampa, Fl. - Total Wine & More - 12 oz bottle. Pours a sparkling medium copper with a long lasting, but thinnish off-white head. Aroma has some sweet candy-like notes, a touch of cherries, Flavor is mellow, with some fruity cherry like accents, a touch of nice subtle bitterness, some toffee-like sweetness. Nicely textured mouthfeel. Pretty decent.

Aroma: Caramel, mild bread, and little citrus hops. Appearance: Dark Amber. Very small head, no lacing Taste: Light pine, orange, caramel. Sweet upfront and finishes with a nice lingering bitterness. Palate: Medium body, noticeable bitterness, lightly carbonated. O: I hate Amber ales, especially the hoppy ones. I always dislike whatever ambers I try. This one was an extra from a trade. This is surprisingly balanced and flavorful. caramel, bread, bread, bread, bread, bread, bread,

Poured from 12 oz. bottle at Quarry House Tavern in Silver Spring, MD. Clear, rusty orange with a f off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of caramel, toast and citrus. Beer of month club. Pours a reddish brown with 1 finger head that leaves white film and good lacing when it recedes. Nose is slightly citrus and malt - but now particularly strong. Taste is caramel with hops on finish - smooth. Pretty good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: deep clear reddish brown, short light tan head, minimal lacing. Aroma: good nose of toasted caramel malts balanced by citrus hops. Taste: caramel and crystal malts, toasted brown bread, light honey and brown sugar, then citrus and piney hops. Finish: lingering hoppy dryness cleans the palate. Notes: Good amber ale. Has a good malty sweetness to balance the hops. I’m still searching for that perfect amber/red ale that’s just a bit more malty than it is hoppy, but still clean and easy-drinking. Draught at Fins in Cape May, New Jersey.

Chris and Alisa brought this one back from a trip to New Jersey +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a red-brown color with a medium sized foamy tan head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was malty, bitter, fruity hops and crystal malt. The flavor was bitter with a strong crystal malt presence followed by notes of caramel and vague floral and fruity hops. Medium length finish. Medium body. Meh.

Bottle at caps beer garden, Newark airport. Caramel malt aroma with pine and grapefruit citrus hop notes. Pours red-amber colored with a decent white head with good retention and some lacing. Starts with sweet caramel malt flavor with light hop notes. Finishes dry, but quite smooth with pine and grapefruit citrus hop notes that balance well with the malt. Nice red!

DATE: June 6, 2015... GLASSWARE: Brew at the Zoo pint... OCCASION: Catching up with Game of Thrones... APPEARANCE: Translucent copper/amber body and a white, cloudlike trail of lacing; almost no effervescence...AROMA: pleasant maltiness and a spike of flowery hops--some citrus and orange as well; mellow and appealing... PALATE: medium-bodied and smooth, with little life but reasonably creamy finish... TASTE: caramel malts take center stage, owning a throaty, metallic dominance; buttery, nutty qualities surface late; some hop crunch balances the experience; a good balance is struck... OVERALL: with grapefruit, a slightly nuanced approach to an amber, with a demonstrative 7% ABV to boot....worthy of a pairing with a night with the epic power of Westeros...

It pours an amber color with an off-white head and lacing. The aroma is a bit weak with bread and caramel. The taste is bready, caramel, and some hop bitterness on the back end. The mouth feel was a nice balance of smoothness and carbonation. This is a pretty good amber.

APPEARANCE - looks like a red ale, but more golden in color. NOSE - definitely hop in the nose. FLAVOR - nice light hoppiness. Slightly light red (malty) flavors.
