COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Billy Goat is our very own Bock beer. The Billy Goat is a strong red lager and certainly has a kick to it! Brewed with Munich and Caramel malts and given an extended conditioning time, the Billy Goat is a big beer full of biscuit, caramel and sweet toffee flavours. Coupled with this is the use of Tettnanger and Saaz hops to give it a spicey, fruity aroma. This lager is not your standard Pilsner, it is a different animal altogether!

Clear dark browny red body with poor head. Sweet aroma, malts and dark fruit. Same in the taste, medium full body, toffee and sugar, drinkable but a bit of a struggle.

Pretty good for an Oz bock. Looks a treat with a very compliant head holdings against a pretty toffee coloured body. Nose shows sweet caramel malts with hints of cooked sugar and fruit. Palate is a bit too fizzy, a shame really given there’s a very decent underlay of toffee and fruity malts Hard to see the alcohol. Very good early effort.

330ml bottle. Looks like a Belgian strong alewhen poured. Coppery brown with a soft tan head and aromas of rum soaked fruit, in particular raisins. Flavour fills the mouth with a lightly bittered fruitiness and then it coats the inside of the mouth.

Pours brown with a small head. Nose is richly malty as expected but also shows a lot of grapefruit and floral hops which are out of place. Not what I’d expect in a bock. Same problem with the flavours but in this case a lot more pronounced. Nutty and caramel malt mixed with lemon, grapefruit and grassy hops? What were they thinking? Carbonation is too high.

Bottle. Clear brownish red pour with a short, foamy off-white head that doesn’t last long. Fairly sweet nose has notes of berries, cola, spicy hops and caramel malts. Flavour pretty much mirrors the aroma but with a surprising amount of bitterness. Mouthfeel is light and sticky with moderate carbonation and a long bitter finish. Although the sweet and bitter elements jar slightly, this is quite a decent bock overall.

Tap. Nice and sweet. Aromas of burnt caramel, apple, cola, and chocolate. Taste is sweet, with good length. Palate is velvety, with a medium body. Brown, with a frothy white head.
