I didn’t expect much but I really enjoyed this. The aroma is lightly smoky with ample roasted malt and coffee accents. The flavor is define by those roasted notes and gives up the expected chocolate/coffee and burnt malt flavors. Simple and narrow in flavor profile, but satisfying if you have a roasted malt tooth. Which I do. Much better than anticipated.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
The beer pours black with a small tan head that fades quickly. The aroma blends roasted and chocolate malts with vanilla, and the taste is mildly umami and a touch sweet with some bitter maltiness coming through in the aftertaste. The palate fuses a medium body, thin and slick texture, and a soft carbonation.

First taste of any Flying Monkey. Pours dark as expected, nice cream head. Aroma of bread, roasted nuts. Tastes of nuts, some chocolate. Not a lot of mouthfeel, medium body, not creamy. Dry. Little aftertaste. Would recommend as early venture into darks from lite.

This is the first beer I have had from Flying Monkey. My expectations were high but my experience was disappointing. The aroma was okay but not a well defined characteristics. The beer poured very well with a nice head but the taste fell flat after even a few drops. It left my palate wanting and expecting more.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour is a black with a large tan head. Aroma is nice with lots of roasted malt and a bit of chocolate and maybe a bit of alcohol which is weird since this is only 4.2%. Flavor is again a nice roasted malt with a nice char left on the tongue. Mouthfeel is a bit thin but the roasted malt is as good as some of the higher rated stouts. Nice session stout.
