If I had 2 million Ecuadorian Cocoa Nibs... I would brew you an Imperial Chocolate Stout. Brewing with BNL demanded a rare treat -organic Ecuadorian Cocoa nibs -to create a rich, friendly Imperial Chocolate Stout as sweet and quirky as the band’s music. We lovingly aged this beer on a bed of luscious raw cocoa nibs creating a black velvety brew so fudge-y it makes you want to lick the inside of your glass. Opaque as chocolate cake, this roasty brew pours topped with a whipped mocha froth. The creamy dark cocoa flavours gently warm with a steady 10%ABV. No bitterness to this stout, just a chocolate boldness that, like a happy memory or a perfect song, keeps on giving. And like great music, this bottle is meant to be shared with special friends and family.

The beer pours a solid black colour with a generous brown head and a beautiful cascading action. Aroma is dark chocolate, coffee, and some vanilla hints. Mouthfeel is full-bodied and well carbonated. Flavour is rich chocolate, black cherry, and hints of vanilla and alcohol. A very rich and heavy beer. Definitely an all-night sipper. Marked down for overall because $13.95 is too much for 750ml. 750ml of Witches Brew and 750ml of LTM Oktoberfest cost $13.15 combined on the same trip!

Best chocolate aroma on a beer ever. Taste and lingering mouth feel still not there I expect it will age well enough in 2 years to be amazing, can’t say it’s there yet though, still hot and medicinal in the finish. Cool beer though, could have been a gimmick but it works.

Bottle from LCBO. Pours black with a nice brown head. Aroma has insane amounts of chocolate, some caramel, and alcohol. Love it. The taste is chocolatey and roasty. Smooth, easy-drinking. This was a great chocolate stout.

Thats a good stout. Very strong chocolate aroma from the initial pour. Taste leaves lingering chocolate flavour and slight bitterness. Very different stout.

Bottle, thankfully shared with a room full of people, ’cuz there’s no way I could have killed this on my own! Viscous near-black pour, dark brown head. Aroma is cakey, fudgey chocolate. All chocolate. In your face chocolate. This is either going to win you over, or turn you away. I’ve said before that I like my foodie beers, so I was won over by the aroma. The palate was also chocolate overload-- very syrupy chocolate, rich and sticky sweet. Very full-bodied, but not even a hint of the ABV. There is no complexity or nuance here, just in-your-face chocolate fudge richness. It has been said in earlier ratings that this is desert in a glass, and it is. It shares similarities with Southern Tier Creme Brûlée, but I liked the palate of flavours in the Creme Brûlée better (it was just more to my taste, that’s all). Well-crafted, but for lovers of chocolate and big sweet beers only.

Amazing aroma. It’s all chocolate as soon as the cap is popped. Midnight black in the glass with a dark mocha head. Super smooth and and a flavour that is full of chocolate. Not overly sweet. More fudge-y than milk chocolate-y. Creamy and smooth and no trace of the 10%. Amazing beer.

Dec 8 2012. 750ml bottle pours jet black with thick bubbly head that turns to tan foam and leaves nice long creamy lacing. Aroma is a blast of rich chocolate which is a good warning of things to come. First taste is a sweet punch in the mouth of cocoa nibs, darker and richer than any chocolate I’ve ever had in any format. It’s so overpowering its all I can taste for a while. After a few long sips the alcohol starts in on the full bodied mouth attack as it slaps its 10% in there right after the cocoa blast with a bitter/sour kick that is followed by a long bitter coffee aftertaste. The only thing that keeps this brew from completely blowing my mind is that it is so rich it can only be sipped at. Rich body doesn’t mean it weighs on palate. Very silky smooth mouthfeel with alcohol clinging its sour bitterness before giving way to long coffee finish. Absolutely fantastic!!!

750ml bottle. Thank God I stumbled on this. I've never had anything more chocolatey (besides actual chocolate). Eclipse in a glass - no light penetrates. Dark (Lovibond 45). Huge dense head which persists a long time. It's pretty near a chocolate milk shake. Tastes incredible. Rich. Rich. Fudgey dark chocolate flavours. Gorgeous nutty malts to finish. I could drink this forever.

Bottle, LCBO - a pretty darn cool looking one too - I have no problem with the price given the unique collaboration and the collectable nature of the product. And I have always been a fan of the band, so this is one I have been looking forward to. Black pour, chocolatey head, looks great. Incredibly strong aroma as soon as you crack the bottle - in the glass it is just gushing with lots and lots of cocoa - smells like the best dark chocolate you have ever had. Taste is super rich as well - first the roast hits you followed by the cocoa and then the alcohol slowly warms your ears - this is a huge beer. I could see how some age would do wonders to this, as it is incredibly bold right now and could use the edges smoothed out a bit. But I love me a dessert beer and this is a classic one. This made for the perfect celebratory treat for my wife and I to split as we just sold our house today :). Cheers Monkeys and BNL.
