Suburbia gets a bad rap. Without Suburbia, so many of us wouldn’t have the teenage culture or common unifying experiences that gave us something to rebel against. Brewed with late addition hops, and just enough malt to provide a smooth, bready body, Genius of Suburbia ISA is a quirky suburban brew that still makes a statement against brewing conformity.

Oh look! Another Ontario session IPA. Tastes of goose berries & sweet malt & green hops & lots of water. Lacks balance. Lacks purpose. Like most suburbs, it’s just not well made or interesting. With such a glut of this style in the market (5 years behind like usual) the math tells us that only a few of these session IPAs are worth the purchase. This isn’t one of them. Yawn.

Pours clear gold and has a beautiful white head which persists quite a bit, but could be a bit thicker. Orange and pine at first, as it goes down it has notes of lemon, bread and honey. Dry bitterness but goes down smoothly thanks to it’s low abv and watery texture. The carbonation is a bit weak though.

3.8%ABV. Session IPA. Tapped out gold. 4ºSRM. Nose is citrus and spicy. Lemon zest and fresh chilies. Kaffir lime leaf aroma. Mouthfeel is soapy. Palate has pale malt with some nice white bread, raw peanuts, raw macadamias or cashews that have not been roasted. Hops are medium bitter and spicy with cilantro and Thai basil. Finish is spicy and full of tannin character.
