COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Defying real focus (how unlike us!), we had to call Hoptical Illusion an Almost Pale Ale (5% Alc./Vol. / IBU 17.5 / Colour SRM 3.44). Hoptical Illusion approaches the characteristics of a pale ale, but takes a quick u-turn at the end. At 18 IBUs versus 25 and up for English Pale Ales, we’re hoppier than most commercial beers, but not too crazy. The star of the show is the dizzying aroma of the privately grown Amarillo hop. Beyond the provocative citrus and floral essences that resonate from the Amarillo’s small, tight cone is a subtle but unique maltiness blended from amber kiln and roasted specialty malts. Finishing with a final Amarillo reference, Hoptical Illusion is a beer that doesn’t beat you over the head, steal your wallet, and jack your car. But you still wouldn’t want meet it in a dark alley.

Pours a clear deep amber, thin white head. Aroma is earthy, floral hop notes. Flavour is hoppy but not overly so, grassy, some sweet malts.

Retrogosto levemente amargo. Boa drinkability. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 fl oz bottle f@Cimmeria, Oviedo. 28-2-2014.
In short: a harsh amber ale.
Pours hazy amber with some soapy off white head. Poor head retention, some lacing. Caramel, liquorice and liquor aromas. Medium body, average carbonation, some crispy texture. Taste is quite bitter, dry, some high alcohols in there, some caramel. Harsh and unpleasant mouthfeel.

355 ml bottle. Pours an amber colour with a small head. Aroma of biscuit, grass and herbal notes. Flavour is quite mild with mild caramel notes, biscuit, some fruitiness and grass. Minty herbal notes too. Light bodied, slick mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Mild and boring.

355 ml bottle.
Pours clear dark copper color with a small head. Aroma of resinous hops, malts, biscuits and hay. Flavor of malts, caramel, resinous hops, biscuits and some distant berry notes. Way too "english" for me. They should have not made the u-torn but go forward at full speed. A disappointment.

Idiosynkrasie (3228) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - FEB 21, 2014
355ml bottle. Clear, almost reddish amber colour with small, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Piney, hoppy aroma, biscuity malty background, a touch of mandarine and orange zest. Taste is fruity hoppy, minimally bitter, minimally citrusy, hints of red berries, malty basis with hints of orange biscuit. Concerning taste almost a "blend" of APA and Bitter with an APA prevalence. Nice.

Pour at the green room with marina & Janet is chestnut dark with a thin cap. Taste is light coffee, left of centre hopping & stark bitterness. Marina says she’s not so much on the finish, that it "falls off like the end of a glacier" & she has a point, don’t she? Decent.
