Heeding a chorus of voices crying for a dark roasty thing with lots of west coast hops and a higher ABV, we summoned Netherworld from the chaotic flipside of the brewhouse where hybrid is the norm and nothing is ordinary. Hovering just this side of evil, in the right hands, our «Cascadian Dark Ale» is bizarrely nice with its own entrancing mojo. However, watch out for those who refuse to see the darkness.

12oz bottle, from Jeff. The bottled-on date is mostly covered by the upper label, and was illegible when I peeled the label off for a peek... Clear red brown color. Pours with a bigger khaki head, leaving thicker lace. Medium-plus body. Kind of soft, light to moderate carbonation. Dry finish. Chocolate, earthy hops, kind of herbal. Sort of spicy, mildly piney. Moderate bitter taste, light to moderate sweet. A solid black IPA, enjoyable, but not that much interesting about it.

Not really black color. Great label. Good body. Citrus, toffee, caramel and herbs. Nice Black IPA.

Final moderadamente amargo y seco. Muy buena.

Pours dark mahogany. Frothy tan head. Aroma is high: coffee, chicory, rucola, dandelion, toast... The classical citrus aroma of the Cascade hop seems obliterated. Silky and oily, with great bitterness and persistence. Aftertaste is dark chocolate.

Not really a Black IPA, more a kind of brown ale. Medium/low hoppy taste, no malts, bit watery. Nice looking. Great body!!!

Awesome beer. Normally I am only lukewarm with black IPAs but this one is awesome. Aroma strong roasted malt with green hops.Pour was a deep dark brown with a thin tan film for a head. Taste was big and hoppy. The strong bitterness of the hops is amplified by the roasted malt and coffee flavors. Mouth is left so bitter it’s almost hot. Great carbonation round this gem out.

If I had to choose a nectar of the Gods, this would be it. The perfect blend of hops and dark, roasted grains. And as it warms the flavour take care dark turn for the better. Next to smashbomb this is my second favorite Beer. Awesome

UPDATED: MAR 21, 2015 "Watch out for those who refuse to see the darkness"... Now that is what I call advertizing, directed to beer lovers at least. Canadian black IPA with thick and moussy, light beige, regularly structured head over a clear, very dark wine red beer - not entirely black, but close enough. Aroma strikes with hops - pine needles, wormwood, dried orange peel - and tons of iron, not in a healthy ’bloody’ kind of way but smelling like iron shavings, with additional hints of walnut, espresso, raisins, grass, bark, faint apple peel, caramel, some sourdough, some toasted bread. Taste is dry from the start, a little bit ash-like with still a subdued, subtle candied sweetness lingering around somewhere as well as a great deal of dried citrus peel; medium carbonation, smooth and lightly powdery mouthfeel, not too heavy as expected from the style; a clear and even somewhat obnoxious metallic ’tone’ appears in the middle, paired with caramelly and nutty malts making a turn for the roasted bitter near the end; finishes in a long, pine-resin-like, drying, citrussy and somewhat earthy, yet elegant hop bitterness leaving just enough room for the nutty and bitterly roasted maltiness to get through; a suggestion of coffee grounds with citrussy hops remains, but something metallic lingers as well. Not the most complex example of the style, but the intention is good and I sincerely like the Halloween-like, kitschy label. Quite alright, but I had a lot better in this style. If they can take out the iron (which is there for whatever reason), this would suddenly be a lot better, too.

355 ml bottle. Pours a black colour with a small beige creamy head. Aroma of rich roastiness, floral hops and grains. Flavour of rich roastiness, strong bitterness, floral hops, citrus and mild fruitiness. Medium bodied. Soft carbonation. Rich and fresh. The citrus notes here are very nice.

355 ml bottle. Freshness info worn out.
Pours black color with a large head. Hoppy on the nose, resinous, fruits, faint coffee and dark malts. Roasted malts on the flavor, citric fruits, resinous hops and cocoa. A bit stuffy. Decent but disappointing.
