3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Came in the Ontario Craft Brewer Discovery pack for the 2010 holidays. Written 6.5% ABV on the top label. Pours a dark brown colour and glows of ruby red through it. The head took some time to form (as it stayed small until the end of the pour). This one is beige, has decent lacing and keeps a good coating over the brew. The nose has mostly some hop showing, mixed with a little roasted malt. Nice smooth, silky and refreshing mouthfeel. Mild tasting with some coffee notes, burnt malt and hints of sour citrus in the finish, that disappears in the aftertaste. I do enjoy the different mix that this beer offers, but wish it would be stronger. Pretty refreshing for such a dark brew.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
From the OCB Taster, 355ml bottle, 6% a/v
Pours a really deep black with a ruby hue on holding it up to the light. The aroma is wickedly hoppy (and delicious), kind of like liberty ale from anchor. The taste is also remarkable, very hoppy but very well backed up by the toasted malts and spicy hints. Damn this is a tasty beer!! Palate stays with you and is great the whole way through. I LOVE this beer.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from OCB pack. Nice dark brown with small foamy head. Aroma was of weak malt with strong citrus. Complex taste which had malt, grapefruit, and coffee notes. I was expecting a hops bitterness which there really wasn’t. Good overall though.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
pours dark with good carbonation and slight lace. aromas are an extremely intereting blend of hoppy pine cones and malted chocolate notes. Palate is more of the same. The mid-palate is a bit hollow and lack a little bit of depth but the finish is bitter and hoppy. Good brew.

bottle from secret santa. Thanks! pours a clear dark brown with a big frothy tan head. leaves some slick lasting lace on the glass. aroma of crisp roast and tight floral and pine hops. some light nuttiness, hazlenut, vanilla, and light doughy milk chocolate cocoa in the taste. nice balance between roast and hops. bitter, earthy dough gains prominence as the beer warms. medium body. light stickiness. pretty good.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
341 ml bottle in an OCB 6-pack from LCBO (as Cascadian Dark Ale), served cold in a tulip glass.
App.: Very deep brown-black with a fair light tan foam.
Aroma: Lots of black coffee with some dark chocolate, pine and green, peppery hops, a bit of grapefruit as it warms, pretty nice.
Palate: Medium body with fine, prickly effervescence.
Flav.: A fairly cohesive blend of dark chocolate, black coffee and classic Cascade hop notes (pine, grapefruit, resin), definitely like a hopped up porter; dry with fairly good bitterness and a very resinous, slightly coffee/chocolate finish.
Better than the Hoptical Illusion.
