Heeding a chorus of voices crying for a dark roasty thing with lots of west coast hops and a higher ABV, we summoned Netherworld from the chaotic flipside of the brewhouse where hybrid is the norm and nothing is ordinary. Hovering just this side of evil, in the right hands, our «Cascadian Dark Ale» is bizarrely nice with its own entrancing mojo. However, watch out for those who refuse to see the darkness.

355 ml bottle. Toronto, ON.
Dark brown colour with small light tan head. Dark fruity hops, bitter American hops and some cola like sweetness in aroma. Roasted sweet malt, mildly bitter American hops and cola in flavour. "Jesus loves you. But I’m his favorite." Text in cap.

Bouteille 355 ml.

(Rating #3723)

Tasting at the 18th Mondial de la bière, June 10, 2011. Mahogany brown, small head. Hoppy aroma of chocolate, hints of berries. Taste of malted barley, hops and herbs, small fruits, after-taste of bitter herbs. Really weird!

Translucent dark brown, with a small head. Smells a bit resiny with a touch of hops. Maltiness mixes with some hops and there’s a mild bitter finish. Very refreshing for such a dark brew. A medium body and a clean finish. A good one.

Thanks turd for sharing. Pours dark brnt copper with one finer of light tan head. Nose is chocolaty with a hint of roast and caramel sweetness, mild citrusy hop presence. Flavor is roasty with some day old coffee and hop bite.

Bottle, Thanks Baker! Nicely balanced nose of roast, citrus, pine, caramel, bittersweet chocolate. Dark brown with spotty tan lace. Flavor takes a detour as its very watery with a thin mouth feel with only hints of roast and lots of bitterness. I like the colorful label.

This ale poured a deep amber colour with a nice, tan coloured, foamy head. Scents include hopps , chocolate , coffee, and caramel. First taste was smooth with flavors of caramel, coffee, chocolate and hopps. Finish is malty, coffee, burnt malt flavors. Palate is burnt with a slight hopp bitterness.

[bottle] Potent pine hope aroma with spicy toffee malt and undertones of bread crust, apricots, and lemons. Almost opaque and almost clear garnet under tan patches. Sweet toffee flavour quickly yields to spicy pine and apricot hops. Assertive bitterness that’s just a touch too much for me. Plenty of fruit that is fresh and dried mingling with toasted and roasted malt accents: vanilla, faint hazelnut and coffee. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, bitterness lingers.

I’ve been eager to try a Black IPA since I heard about them in a brew magazine. Exactly as I’d hoped. WOW citrus hops bold and out there at the front, the dark chocolaty beer flavour warming the middle, and a finish of drying hops on the tongue. It is a pretty cutting edge beer for Ontario Craft breweries, and I will seek out more of this in the future.
