Roasted malt. Mmm, vanilla and molasses...Begins hoppy-citrus, spice, ends light roasted coffee. Medium-dry bitter aftertaste.

Pours clear very dark brown. Moderate beige head, medium retention. Aromas of new world hops – resin, pine, citrus mostly. Maybe a bit of a smoky edge underneath. This is a nice beer to drink. Opens with big effervescent, bright, hoppy flavours of pine, lemon. Hint of roasty bitterness underneath. On the finish it moves into lingering bitterness but it lets the dark malts shine through more. Alcohol totally hidden. Mouthfeel maybe a little on the thin side, but the way it coats your mouth on the finish is amazing. Goes through an incredible transformation from first sip to finish.

I tried this beer on December 9, 2010 after purchasing the Holiday 2010 Discovery Pack at one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a brownish-black with a thin foamy light brown head. The aroma is citrusy hops, pine, and roasted malt. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is roasted malt, coffee, and citrus. A little sourness on the tongue also exists.

Bottle. Dark brown minimal head. Dark dusty malt chocolate scent. noticeable absence of hops in aroma. Flavour is black and dusty as well. Cocoa and strong hops, however the hops struggle to climb over the malt. Not typical for style. The hops and malt seem to be fighting and the malt is winning. Not synchronous but disharmonious.

Medium brown color. Lots of roasted malts, toffee and caramel nose. Mildly sweet, toffee, mochachinno, dark cherries, wood a touch earthy. Decent as an English ale, but far from what I would expect from an Cascadian Dark Ale. Good, but just not to style and lacking PNW flavor.

Came in the Ontario Craft Brewer Discovery pack for the 2010 holidays. Written 6.5% ABV on the top label. Pours a dark brown colour and glows of ruby red through it. The head took some time to form (as it stayed small until the end of the pour). This one is beige, has decent lacing and keeps a good coating over the brew. The nose has mostly some hop showing, mixed with a little roasted malt. Nice smooth, silky and refreshing mouthfeel. Mild tasting with some coffee notes, burnt malt and hints of sour citrus in the finish, that disappears in the aftertaste. I do enjoy the different mix that this beer offers, but wish it would be stronger. Pretty refreshing for such a dark brew.

From the OCB Taster, 355ml bottle, 6% a/v
Pours a really deep black with a ruby hue on holding it up to the light. The aroma is wickedly hoppy (and delicious), kind of like liberty ale from anchor. The taste is also remarkable, very hoppy but very well backed up by the toasted malts and spicy hints. Damn this is a tasty beer!! Palate stays with you and is great the whole way through. I LOVE this beer.

Poured from OCB pack. Nice dark brown with small foamy head. Aroma was of weak malt with strong citrus. Complex taste which had malt, grapefruit, and coffee notes. I was expecting a hops bitterness which there really wasn’t. Good overall though.
