4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 thorongil2 (660) - , Ontario, CANADA - JUN 8, 2012
(bottle) clear very dark maber with small tan head; aromas of dried longan, citrus; roasty flavour - like a good stout mixed with IPA, long medium bitter finish, excellent
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 13/20 djjodskins (26) - CANADA - JUN 5, 2012
Interesting beer, definite grapefruit/cascade on the nose with a heavy hint of roastyness, appearance is dark ruby red, definitely unfiltered, lost appearance marks for unsavory little flecks of hops. Light to medium-bodied for a dark ale, roasty, hints of coffee, caramel, cocoa and oak, piney and citrus-like on the hop end, comes together quite well actually.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 reebtogi (3262) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 1, 2012
Once again, first I have to take a few seconds to admire the amazing artwork on the botte. Okay done, now we have a 355ml bottle which pours a dark amber color with a 2 finger off-white head that retains well and leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is light grapefruit with some roasted grains and hints of caramel and chocolate. Taste is light grapefruit bitterness with some caramel malty sweetness and a roasted barley bitterness as well. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation providing a pleasant feeling on the palate. A very nice done beer and look forward to more in the near future.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Digital_Aura (208) - Ontario, CANADA - MAY 20, 2012
355ml bottle. Pours a dark ruby brown (Lovibond 35). Small head becomes lace quickly. Smells of grapefruit and fresh cut grass. Imagine my surprise at tasting the same! Medium to low carbonation. Not as bitter as their other offerings which means, for me, it's their best one so far. Actually, having bought 6 bottles, I've developed a slight appreciation for the IPA. It has it's place. This is a decent brew.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 omhper (17456) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAY 12, 2012
Bottled at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm. Black, creamy off white head. Licorice, cocoa and grapefruit. Dryish with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Coffee with salt and cream. Mid bitter finish. More hoppy porter than IPA.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Tiger_08 (132) - Sarnia, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 9, 2012
May 9 2012. Bottle pours dark brown/black, 1 to 2 inches of fluffy off-white head. Head fades but lasts a while with good lacing. Citrus hops and grapefruit aroma with strong floral and pine. Flavour is grapefruit up front, twist of pine, roasted malt. Medium body and carbonation. Strong hops on palate, followed by sweet citrus and pine then long bitter finish. Not too strong and well balanced. A lot more going on than regular IPA gives it more depth. A great bold brew.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 bunget (317) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 6, 2012
355ml bottle. Deep ruby color, almost black with a big mocha head, beautiful lacing. Aroma is chocolate, roasted nuts, hops, fresh pine, vanilla, hints of coffee, caramel. Taste is stout dry, coffee, hops, roasted malt.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 WheatKing (703) - Oak Bay, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 25, 2012
Surprised Netherworld isn’t rated higher... this beer strikes a great balance. Black IPAs can often feel unbalanced, with a little too much black bitterness. This one is just a nice strong hop content in the front with a richness in the back. I can smell the douglas firs while drinking this. Head and lacing are great. This is how great beers are made. Highly recommended.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Svesse (5197) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - APR 14, 2012
(Bottle, Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm, 5 April 2012) Dark brown colour, almost black, with brief beige head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of chocolate, dark bread and hints of ashes. Roasted, malty taste with chocolate, dark bread, hints of ashes and a slightly piney bitterness in the finish. Medium body, fairly dry. Well balanced and very nice.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Sask89 (326) - Regina, Saskatchewan, CANADA - APR 7, 2012
Pours a deep brown colour, cloudy with a very thin mocha head. Aroma is of roasted grains, coffee grounds with a lingering hop scent as well. Taste is dry up front with a nice bitter bite in this finish. Smooth on the palate, medium bodied, and soft carbonation. Overall a very nice brew.
