COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Heeding a chorus of voices crying for a dark roasty thing with lots of west coast hops and a higher ABV, we summoned Netherworld from the chaotic flipside of the brewhouse where hybrid is the norm and nothing is ordinary. Hovering just this side of evil, in the right hands, our «Cascadian Dark Ale» is bizarrely nice with its own entrancing mojo. However, watch out for those who refuse to see the darkness.

Very dark brown clear pour, tan head, lots of lacing. Roasted malts, chocolate, molasses, little but of earthiness, grapefruit. Sweet and roasted up front with a nice bitter hoppy finish. Not boozy. Medium creamy body. Rich and refreshing at the same time. Very nice.

355ml bottle. Dark brown pour with ruby highlights at the edges. Smallish tan head. Roasted coffee malt and citrus, piney hops aroma. Roasted coffee and earthy bitterness, with some grapefruit and pine hops in the taste. Alcohol is masked well. Body is a little thin, but smooth. Overall, a nice tasting beer.

A dark brown ale. Lots of grapefruity cascade hops in the aroma with pine and roasted malt. Maybe a hint of cocoa in there too. Medium bodied, slightly bubbly. Chewy mouthfeel. Flavour is initially very fruity with ruby grapefruit and other citrus flavours, some grassiness leading to roasted malts, cocoa powder, mild coffee and chocolate in the finish.

355ml brown bottle. Dark brown pour, dense dark beige foam with a rocky top. Patchy but long lasting lace. Nose has grapefruit, chocolate, coffee and caramel. Taste has dark chocolate and bitter coffee with grapefruity hops. Some coffee in the aftertaste, roasty, citrusy notes linger. Nice late bitterness. Soft bodied, mild carbonation, balanced and easy to session. Will enjoy drinking through 5 more of these...

355ml bottle. Pours nearly black with lots of foamy chocolate milk head that leaves a little lace. I’m not usually a big fan of the black IPA style but the nose on this is fantastic. Sprucy hops and chocolate on the nose with a little citrus and coffee on the edges. Coffee comes out a lot more on the palate but it’s separate from the hops that are present and accounted for with a nice citrusy burst on the mid-palate. Much better than I expected since I wasn’t a big fan of their other brews.

A good beer overall. The pours is a purely opaque dark brown with a thin finger of light beige head. The nose is sweet and fruity at first with grapefruit but then robust and well roasted. Notes of chocolate and coffee grounds in the middle with a hint of grapefruit and resin. The finish is quite dry and robustly astringent. Overall, a good CDA!

Bottle. Pours deep, dark brown with lots of almost creamy tan head. Aroma of fruity hop, coffee, chocolate, roasted malt. Taste is equal parts sweet and bitter, entirely delicious. Medium-bodied and bordering on thick. A rare style for Ontario, this is a well put together Cascadian Dark.

DuffMan (6462) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 20, 2012
Bottle. Very dark brown with a persistent grey-beige head. Aroma is equally hoppy and roasty, quite nice but kind of tame. The flavour profile is led by hard roast and caramel, with light citrus hops coming in to finish things off (more tangelo or mandarin than grapefruit). This didn’t seem all that complex or assertive, and there was an annoying dusty/powdery thing happening in the mid-palate that became increasingly distracting in a bad way. Still enjoyed it in the end, but it didn’t blow me away.

Bottle. Pours very dark brown with a creamy long lasting dense creamy beige head. The aroma is roasted malt, tobacco, citrus, fruit and liquorice. The flavour is roasted and fruity with notes of citrus and liquorice. Quaffable.
