Pours almost black with a hazel colored head...as the beer warmed...aromas included a little smoke, vanilla, and coffee. On the palate, intense hops and espresso. Very nice beer.

2.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Very keen to try this because of itís from Ontario and had a bunch of high ratings, but I was pretty disappointed. Smells great, looks great, tastes so uninteresting. Really unexciting, kinda all over the place, thin. Was let down.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
355ml. bottle from the L.C.B.O. in Ottawa. The color is black with a thick beige head. The taste is of hops, spicies.berries, and roasted malt. A very distinctive taste for a black I.P.A. The aroma is also of hops and roasted malt. It leaves a nice lingering taste in the mouth. Over all a very pleasant experiance. And nice reading.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a clear dark colour with traces of deep ruby. Dark chocolate and coffee dominate the aroma. Mild hopping is evident as well. The dark malts are balanced with a healthy dose of west coast hops in the flavour. Meduim bodied with some lively carbonation. Tasty.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled sample. Dark cola brown in color wtih medium carbonation. Aromas are of cocoa powder, mild spicy hops, minerals, and a hint of malt powder. More roasted malt and chocolate upfront in the mouth, along with a nice chalk element. Bitterness is solid, but Iím not really picking up a whole lot of hops here. Medium bodied. More like a porter than a black IPA in my opinion, but tasty enough as is.

Pours a pitch black with a modest brown head and some lacing. Nice! Aroma of blackcurrants and licorice. Strong licorice taste, spicy hops, roasted malt. Moderately thick body with nice carbonation. Very flavourful CDA - unique!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle from the LCBO, served in a tulip. Pours hazy mahogany with a moderate tan head. The head fades slowly, leaving behind a moderate amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are notes of pine, citrus, chocolate, caramel, herbs and earth. The flavour is balanced between moderately sweet toasted malts, with nuts, chocolate and molasses, and a moderate piney bitterness from the hops. The finish is long and balanced, with pine, citrus and chocolate notes. Overall, this is a nice black IPA. it is less intrusive than other examples and has a nice chocolate bias. 2011-12-07

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours clear and dark with white foamy head. Very little aroma. Taste is very little bitter but mostly sweet with the hops and sharp aftertaste.
