"Holy Hop, Batman, this beer has aroma." Hops are casted nine different times, it’s a breath-deep-and-shudder-with-pleasure kind of scent that’s all from the Citra hops. With a high alpha acid of 11%, Citra has a cacauphony of flavours and aromas --Citrus, passion fruit, grapefruit, lime, melon, lychee fruit, pineapple, mango, and papaya – and dominates this beer.

Smashbombs olfactory tropical explosion shockwaves your face every time you lift the meringue foam towards you. It’s like the ecru-coloured top of a beer pie before it gives up and grips the glass. You can see the Victory malt’s signature in the amber lights in what is primarily a deep golden beer. And, yes, don’t be fooled --there’s malt going on here, too, as you’ll see in the firey body of this ale that makes Smashbomb Atomic look like it radiates its own energy.

With the first taste, Smashbomb’s 70 IBUs are pronounced. This brew is a little bitter, but bitter like a grapefruit with three tablespoons of sugar on top. It’s also incredibly drinkable. The oddity that’ll keep you tipping the glass is that as this citrus peel front subsides, you actually gleen the sweet flavours of the Victory and Crystal malts. Then, as the bread-puddin’ bicuity sweetness of the malts are chased by the dry, tropical flavour of Citra and the fruit punch bouquet is all in your face with each sip, it’s all is so damn intriguing, you’ll be driven to keep on sampling...and sampling.

UPDATED: JUN 26, 2015 Tap @ BlackLab, Barcelona, 22/06/15, thanks bluus. Pours a beautiful orange. Aroma is red fruits, resin, caramel. Taste is caramel, resin, pine, quite bitter, ratehr light.

Bottle, bottled 10/14, 30/01/15. Pours orange with a nice, smooth, beige head. Aroma is fairly hoppy with citrus and light pine. Taste is semi-dry, citrus and pine, medium caramel. Light with medium carbonation. An alright IPA with good drinkability. Very enjoyable.

Promising citra nose that pays off in the flavor. Does not blow your head off, but rather delivers a very nice, balanced look at what American IPA could -and should - be. And from a Canadian brewer at that.

Dissipating white foamy head atop an orange body. While most IPAs have a citrus nose this is more a fruit bowl. Flavour is nicely tart with a mellow orange rind and soapy flowers. Lingering bitter hop finish. Very tasty. 355ml bottle purchased for $2.80 from Spinnakers Spirit Merchants in James Bay.

Excellente IPA. Pamplemousse, amertume tranchante. Excellent.

medium Amber color. Apricot strong malty backbone. A bit astringent. Not all that pleasant.

An orange beer with a medium and blond head. The nose has strong and tropical fruityness, papaiyas, mangos, some lychee, quite strong fructose. Taste has peaches, medium bitterness, the fruits are staying in the mouth. Unfortunately, the hoppyness is suffered with this bottle and the bitterness is changed to slightly wooden. Medium bodied, medium carbonation. This should be enjoyed fresher but good beer anyway.

Bottle poured to pint glass. Hazy amber. Very bitter and surprisingly smooth. How did they do that? I had to try this beer just for the name, butt I would drink it again for the taste.

Reddish pour with big white head. Big hops but the malt flavour is there. Not as hoppy as I remember from the first tasting last year. Still decent.

Bottle from Saveur-Biere.com - Color: clear amber beer with no carbonation and small white foam. Smell: nice hoppy nose with grassy and floral notes and well balanced of malt as caramel. Taste: nice sensation on mouth, fresh hoppy taste with fruity notes. Really fresh and well balanced. Aftertaste: wet bitterness. And nice grassy taste.
