"Holy Hop, Batman, this beer has aroma." Hops are casted nine different times, itís a breath-deep-and-shudder-with-pleasure kind of scent thatís all from the Citra hops. With a high alpha acid of 11%, Citra has a cacauphony of flavours and aromas --Citrus, passion fruit, grapefruit, lime, melon, lychee fruit, pineapple, mango, and papaya Ė and dominates this beer.

Smashbombs olfactory tropical explosion shockwaves your face every time you lift the meringue foam towards you. Itís like the ecru-coloured top of a beer pie before it gives up and grips the glass. You can see the Victory maltís signature in the amber lights in what is primarily a deep golden beer. And, yes, donít be fooled --thereís malt going on here, too, as youíll see in the firey body of this ale that makes Smashbomb Atomic look like it radiates its own energy.

With the first taste, Smashbombís 70 IBUs are pronounced. This brew is a little bitter, but bitter like a grapefruit with three tablespoons of sugar on top. Itís also incredibly drinkable. The oddity thatíll keep you tipping the glass is that as this citrus peel front subsides, you actually gleen the sweet flavours of the Victory and Crystal malts. Then, as the bread-puddiní bicuity sweetness of the malts are chased by the dry, tropical flavour of Citra and the fruit punch bouquet is all in your face with each sip, itís all is so damn intriguing, youíll be driven to keep on sampling...and sampling.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2012 Sept. 28 2012. 355ml bottle pours cloudy apricot orange with an inch meringue off white head that lasts to bottom and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is grapefruit hops strong enough to give warning that this will be unbearable to those who donít appreciate hops. Some slight malty sweetness like candy is also present on nose. Each sip is blast of grapefruit hops which dominates the sweet biscuit malt. A battle between sweet and bitter that end in a well balanced tie but sucks all the moisture out of your mouth. Long dry finish that doesnít go away. Definitely a bold strong hops beer. Almost enough to drink as a dare but not too much that its still fantastic.

pours a hazy amber, with a decent, thick off-white head. Great, fresh aroma of resin and grapefruit, maybe pine. Taste falls flat a bit following the aroma - was really expecting a citrus smashbomb or atomic blast, but a bitter resin dominated. Not as fresh a taste as the aroma lets on. Malty as well, as well as a bit of salt. Fine carbonation, respectable body. For an IPA with a name like that, itís kinda meh. For an IPA, itís ok.

355 ml bottle. Pours an orangy light haze with a thick head of uniform medium bubbles. Aroma is dominated by a nice pine and citrus hoppiness. Nice resiny pine bitternes throughout. Some toasty cereal malt hiding behind the explosive hops. Long astringent bitter finish and an oily mouthfeel that coats the tongue. Nice IPA but can only have one of these at a time.

Bottle from Atis, enjoyed at the cottage on Lake Huron, thanks! Pours an off clear copper, slim head with a fruity aroma and more fruit to taste along with the hops and molasses and bitter finish. Worth looking out for I think.

Bottle sample. Pours clear deep orange, with a thin white head and ropey lacing. Nose is big grapefruit hops, lots of tropical fruit and pine as well. Some malt sweetness underneath keeps the nose balanced. Flavours are aggressively bitter, but balanced quite well - I normally hate IPAs this sweet but this one rocks! Loads of grapefruit, pine, and spruce. Killer brew!

Bottle at national beer hall, Calgary. It pours lightly hazy orange, with a medium off-white head. The nose is juicy orange, tangerine, papaya, watermelon, sesame seed and some crystal malt. The taste is zesty citrus, grapefruit, orange, waxy lemon zest, papaya, light spice and some metal, with a pleasantly bitter finish. Medium body and medium, prickly carbonation. Nice IPA. Great name.

Bottle sampled at Kramerís Campground Brewdown 2012. Pours a hazy amber body with white lacing. Aroma is light malts, spice and faint hops. Mouthfeel is medium to thin with notes of sweet malts dominating, and some faint spices and hops in the background.

Bottle. Pours a clear light copper body with a small fizzy off-white head that faded to a thin covering. The nose is hinting at a hefty dose crystal malt, and thatís a problem for me. Moderate to light citrusy hops overlay the sweet crystal malt base. The flavor is exactly like the nose signaled, lots of sickeningly sweet crystal malt that really takes away from the citrusy hops. Thereís a decent level of bitterness here, but it canít overpower the crystal malt. Medium bodied with a sticky clingy finish. Not the most pleasant IPA for my tastes.

Had this at the Campground Brewdown courtesy of Jeremy and Kathryn. Pours a clear orange amber with a medium sized white head. Malt, sweet light citrus and earth on the nose. Malty, soapy. Malty with some floral soap notes. Earthy malt, toast, long bitter malt finish.
