"Holy Hop, Batman, this beer has aroma." Hops are casted nine different times, itís a breath-deep-and-shudder-with-pleasure kind of scent thatís all from the Citra hops. With a high alpha acid of 11%, Citra has a cacauphony of flavours and aromas --Citrus, passion fruit, grapefruit, lime, melon, lychee fruit, pineapple, mango, and papaya Ė and dominates this beer.

Smashbombs olfactory tropical explosion shockwaves your face every time you lift the meringue foam towards you. Itís like the ecru-coloured top of a beer pie before it gives up and grips the glass. You can see the Victory maltís signature in the amber lights in what is primarily a deep golden beer. And, yes, donít be fooled --thereís malt going on here, too, as youíll see in the firey body of this ale that makes Smashbomb Atomic look like it radiates its own energy.

With the first taste, Smashbombís 70 IBUs are pronounced. This brew is a little bitter, but bitter like a grapefruit with three tablespoons of sugar on top. Itís also incredibly drinkable. The oddity thatíll keep you tipping the glass is that as this citrus peel front subsides, you actually gleen the sweet flavours of the Victory and Crystal malts. Then, as the bread-puddiní bicuity sweetness of the malts are chased by the dry, tropical flavour of Citra and the fruit punch bouquet is all in your face with each sip, itís all is so damn intriguing, youíll be driven to keep on sampling...and sampling.

cask. great citrusy aroma with some floral piny hops there as well. not much malt to back this one up but the hops are balanced enough to keep it away from being to one sided. flavour is citrus with the majority leaning towards orange but with some grapefruit in there as well. mouthfeel was a tad watery, i feel like this one will be even better on tap. really nice offering. glad i got to try it.

Bottle, from the brewery. Medium yellow, well carbonated, very frothy head. Lots of citrus in aroma, along with some malt similar too the Hoptical Illusion - sort of a tea mixed with biscuit. Taste is very nice - lots of sharp spicy hops up front, long toasty bitter linger,. Really easy to drink with well carbonated but silky mouthfeel. A more refined and flavourful version of the solid Hoptical, nice job Flying Monkeys.

loses points for a lacking aroma but maybe thats because it was in a pint glass. lovely hop flavour with citrus and pine thoughout, the bitter finish was perfect for an IPA. i love how i can still taste the bitterness an hour after ive had my last sip. this is a real gem for a Canadian beer. great job, i cant wait for these to hit the LCBO!

Nice looking beer. Hazy red orange with a nice thick white head. Extremely strong Hop scent, as expected from a good IPA. Its got that grapefruit scent I know is associated with good pale ales. I usually dont like good pale ales. I find they assault the back of the throat. This one still does that but to a much lesser extent. Now I dont know if this makes it a better or worse IPA but its better to me. Rather like this for a style of beer Im not a big fan of.

A regular in my fridge. Amber pour with a finger plus of white head. Little gobs of lacing. Hoppy aroma - Citrus hops, grapefruit, mango, zesty, some pine. Big blast if citrus hops up front - Mango, Grapefruit rind, citronella, some pink, floral, fairly strong malt backbone. Midium bodied, medium carbonation. Big webs of lacing down the glass. This hits a 4.0 plus when itís fresh from the cask.

Light amber colour, off-white head with some lacing. Aroma is citrus and a bit of pine. Very hoppy taste, not much noticeable malt, which is not a bad thing. What is there has a roasty, warm quality. A grapefruit-like bitter finish is present and exactly what I look for in IPAs. Itís a bit strange to see Ontario breweries putting out very good IPAs (Muskokaís Mad Tom being another great example), but I welcome it.

So much sweet caramel, tons of hops.....LOVE THIS AROMA!!!!! Looks like a beer. Peachy with tons of citrus zest. So many hops so little time. Carbonation stings the mouth in a soft way. Taste is not nearly as good as the aroma but still dam tasty. Earthy caramel with a medium bitter finish. Peach, lemon, some mild ashtray. Spicy after taste that lingers in flavorless bitterness. This a great easy to drink beer....its almost an epic one.

355 ml bottle. Pours an orangy light haze with a thick head of uniform medium bubbles. Aroma is dominated by a nice pine and citrus hoppiness. Nice resiny pine bitternes throughout. Some toasty cereal malt hiding behind the explosive hops. Long astringent bitter finish and an oily mouthfeel that coats the tongue. Nice IPA but can only have one of these at a time.

2012-10-15, bottle from LCBO, Toronto, 7-4-8-5-15=39
Amber color, clear, with generous head. The aroma is milder than expected, but fresh and interesting, with fruity/resiny hops, acquiring a very light earthy character later. Lean mouthfeel, smooth; good caramel and toffee flavor; the hop is resiny and hoppy; the final is balanced, powerful and long.
Very good.

Dark amber color, creamy head. Nice aroma, caramelly, a bit creamy, and with some cheesy yeast. Good caramel and toffee flavor, strong presence of cheesy yeast, strong bitterness. It has some ending astringency, and resins.

Bottle from LCBO, pours a clear medium golden colour. A 1/4 inch creamy head that quickly dissipates leaving minimal lacing. The aroma is of yeast, pine, and grapefruit. Initially it offers a great Hops kick, with a nice lingering bitter aftertaste. As the beer warms up the citrus notes show through, I get the sensation of a stick of juicy fruit gum with a hops kicker! Very drinkable, and a great beer overall. This is my first sampling of Flying Monkey, looking forward to many more!
