"Holy Hop, Batman, this beer has aroma." Hops are casted nine different times, itís a breath-deep-and-shudder-with-pleasure kind of scent thatís all from the Citra hops. With a high alpha acid of 11%, Citra has a cacauphony of flavours and aromas --Citrus, passion fruit, grapefruit, lime, melon, lychee fruit, pineapple, mango, and papaya Ė and dominates this beer.

Smashbombs olfactory tropical explosion shockwaves your face every time you lift the meringue foam towards you. Itís like the ecru-coloured top of a beer pie before it gives up and grips the glass. You can see the Victory maltís signature in the amber lights in what is primarily a deep golden beer. And, yes, donít be fooled --thereís malt going on here, too, as youíll see in the firey body of this ale that makes Smashbomb Atomic look like it radiates its own energy.

With the first taste, Smashbombís 70 IBUs are pronounced. This brew is a little bitter, but bitter like a grapefruit with three tablespoons of sugar on top. Itís also incredibly drinkable. The oddity thatíll keep you tipping the glass is that as this citrus peel front subsides, you actually gleen the sweet flavours of the Victory and Crystal malts. Then, as the bread-puddiní bicuity sweetness of the malts are chased by the dry, tropical flavour of Citra and the fruit punch bouquet is all in your face with each sip, itís all is so damn intriguing, youíll be driven to keep on sampling...and sampling.

Cask, at CíEst What Spring Festival, May 29, 2010. Cloudy orange with a minimal frothy off-white head (looks like cask all right). Smells very good - juicy and fruity citrus aroma - simply described, very much like a watered-down Black Oak Ten Bitter Years (and thatís pretty good). The taste is mild, but solid - citrus bitterness, slightly sweet tropical fruit malt, and an interesting black tea herbal/bitter character - the bitterness starts slow, builds slowly to a moderately lip-smacking level, then levels off before it approaches aggressiveness. Classic cask mouthfeel - solid body, not much carbonation (who cares), and enough dry bitterness to seem almost squeaky/astringent in the reasonably long finish; as it worked on my palate, a clear grapefruit character began to dominate, and it appealed to me quite a bit - not hugely demanding, and the flavour seemed very well suited to cask (I think it would rate lower on keg), so I say "well done" FM - a pretty sessionable IPA (I will ignore the hyperbole of the name - it was bitter, but not THAT bitter). Best beer theyíve ever made.

Cask at CíEst What Spring Festival, 2010. Pours a hazy orange-copper with no head. Lovely aroma of grapefruit and resiny hops backed by sweet malt. Flavour of grapefruit and resiny leafy hops with a long bitter finish. Average bodied. An easy to drink, hoppy, flavourful beer, I loved it. Bottle this!

On tap at Volo. Appearance: Deep ruby red with a decent sized off White head. Aroma: nice pine like hops to start, strawberry, vanilla, fresh grass. Flavour: tangy pine, lemons, mango skin, lovely malty tangyness, seriously bitter finish. This is a sign of great things to come for Ontario!!

Unbelievably hoppy, and unbelievably floral. I like how itís bitterness manages to keep things entertaining. Not flat at all. Great brew.

Pour copper orange with a off white head. Aroma big aroma of pine, pine sap, resiny hops, some citrus, light caramel. Taste mild malt body mostly dominated by bitter hops, pine citrus(grapefruit) and touch of caramel are quite tasty. MF medium sticky body with a good carb. Overall a super solid brew Iím very happy to see make it to the LCBO easy drinking and full of flavor.

Bottle: Poured an amber color ale with large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of citrus and bitter hoppy notes is very nice. Taste is also a good mix between some lightly sweet caramel malt notes with some citrus and bitter hoppy notes dominating. Body is quite full with good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Very nice beer though less bitter notes and more floral notes would have been better IMHO.

A fertile hoppy flavour that progresses in your mouth, from a herbal bitterness to a sharp, enduring bitter. Seems to gain power for the next 15 seconds or so after swallowing.

Big thanks to Pushkinwow for this. Pours amber with a big fluffy head. Lots of citrus in the aroma. Some orange, grapefruit . Really nice. Very sticky in your mouth. Probably one of the best Canadian IPA I have had!
