bottle. Poured slightly opaque amber-prange with a thin lasting white head. Robust perfumey hop aroma. Full bodied, tart and sticky. All hop flavour, spicy, grapefruit notes. Long aftertaste.

Pours really nice amber, verging into red with off-white head of tight, white bubbles. Great lacing and cap. Aroma is sweet and skunky. Slight caramel from the malt, something of a peach like tropical fruit sweetness, little pine and wood, and unfortunately, the great Canadian butter aroma. Taste is dece. Malt is light caramel, more bready, some nice citrus that is fairly tame comes through from the hop, Butter makes it’s way in, but its slight and not too distracting. There is some pine that is apparent too, with a subtle tropical fruit nectar thing going on, but it is honestly quite mellow. Not bland, but just mellow. The bitterness is pretty robust, but not too intense, which lasts through to the finish with hop fruit sweetness. Alcohol leaves the slightest warmth at the back of the throat but other than that it’s not very noticeable. Not quite as intense as I would have figured, but not bad either. Citrus and tropical becomes more prominent as it goes on. Wouldn’t buy a sixer again for the price, but if I was in a place that sold it at a reasonable figure, then sure. It would be better without whatever the fuck gives some Canadian beer that buttery fucking flavour, and I’m pretty sure it aint Diacetyl otherwise a shit ton of those breweries would be closed the fuck down.

I don’t know why I do this to myself.... I start rating with a bunch of similar strong lagers and pale lagers and other forgetable stuff in the morass of the mess of the beer world, and then dig deeper into the interesting stuff later on. Maybe it’s that old rule about starting with the lighter stuff first... well, to valhalla with it! I wanna try the one with the funky label! So there it is. When poured aggressively it has a solid head and a foggy copper body, perfect for an IPA if you’d ask moi. The aroma is all hops, fresh hops that smell like 30-minute and 0-minute varieties. The flavour, however, is rather subtle - not overpowering hops and a bit of a watery finish. Still good, still refreshing, but this stuff should have been in-your-face with its qualities. Instead it backs off at the end, leaving it to be "good" instead of "great". Shame.

I have been waiting to try this ever since it was "banned" initially by the LCBO because supposedly it was too violent in the title???? Anyway found it today and did a sample pack of several flying monkey. This poured from bottle into pint glass. Amber dark medium redish white head. Aroma, boom, I get tons of things, spruce, grapefruit, pineapple so much. Taste is bitter off course, but not off the chart, this blends nice, you get like it says the grapefruit effect with the sugar, I completely remember having that as a kid and now in a beer! You get a creamy texutre and bitter finish, but just right. This is a superb beer, me is a liking!

355ml bottle. Nice deep reddish copper colour. Small head with a brownish hint, looks oily.
Aroma is incredible: sweet and spicy, pine, orange peel, wormwood, caramel, very floral, all thanks to Citra and Centennial hops I guess.
Taste is very bold, lots of hops bitterness, orange, pine, very dry and oily, pepper.
Exceeded my expectations.

Perhaps my favorite beer to have on draught. A truly robust hoppiness they awakens the tongue but not at all offensively. Unfortunately, the bottled version doesn’t quite have the same magic.

Draft sample at WVRST. Burnt orange in colour with medium carbonation. Balanced sweet citrus and pale malt aromas. Sweet pink grapefruit, orange, flowers, and a touch of caramel in the mouth. Medium bodied with a fair bit of bitterness. A solid effort.

Can these guys make IPAs? Yes. Yes they can. This beer is a massive surprise on the Ontario beer scene, and would easily stand its own on the West Coast. Usually you get one type of hop sticking out of the mist; here you get a slew of them. Your nose gets shattered at first and slowly begins to pick them out. When talking about balance, in the typical beers we’re discussing the malt vs hops. Here we’re talking about the hops vs hops, that’s what makes the great IPAs so special. Perfect the whole way through the glass, the spiderwebs are so intricate you look at it after finishing and can remember every sip. Neil Young tours so he’ll find a heart of gold, I test beers to find drinks like this.

341ml bottle. Hazy, dark amber pour with lots of off-white head that leaves a sticky lace. Lots of fresh grapefruity hops on the nose with a solid underlying caramel note. Kind of a letdown on the palate. That big fresh citrus note is gone, replaced with a more resinous flavour. The caramel comes through nicely all the same and the finish has a good sharp bitter crunch. I’d hoped for more from this one.

The pour is a slightly cloudy golden color with a couple fingers of white head. Not a big fan of this one. Pretty malt with a bit of floral malt, pine, and citrus peel. The flavor isn’t much better. Kind of bland with some bready malt and a little bit of citrus peel and floral hops, but a fairly pronounced bitterness. Really not a very good IPA.

Lives up to its’ name - smashing your senes with an explosion of citrus hops. The greatest thing since sliced bread? This liquid bread.
