Holy fuck Ontario has arrived. Kinda. Coppery gold look, fine white head. Distinct aromas of grapefruit pith and tangerine, taste follows alike with those citrus elements and very smooth resiny aspect. Very decent medium feel, Dryness braces palate a bit and carries into finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask at Cíest What Spring Festival, 2010. Pours a slightly opaque dark amber. Very little head. with no head. Pithy hops meld well with the malt backing. Distinct notes of grapefruit and some resin laden hops. The finish is long and bitter. Average bodied. Much better than their hoptical illusion and should do well in the marketplace.

Bottle, from the brewery. Medium yellow, well carbonated, very frothy head. Lots of citrus in aroma, along with some malt similar too the Hoptical Illusion - sort of a tea mixed with biscuit. Taste is very nice - lots of sharp spicy hops up front, long toasty bitter linger,. Really easy to drink with well carbonated but silky mouthfeel. A more refined and flavourful version of the solid Hoptical, nice job Flying Monkeys.

[2889-20100528] Tap. Citrus yeast aroma has nice orange notes. Hazy, medium orange body with quick white bubbles. Bitter citrus hops flavour has smooth grainy malt notes. Medium body. Could stand more carbonation but has great citrus, very tasty.

UPDATED: APR 28, 2012 sampled mutiple time by now, the most recently right now as it sits in my snifter from a bottle that im not supposed to explain. anyway, golden with a white head. huge citra hop aroma, im not a huge fan of citra but the aroma is huge citra and a huge aroma with any type of hop is a good aroma, huge citra. the flavour is quite blanced even though the huge citra has its say in both the flavour and bitterness. the munich malt body is an interesting and one that i hope doesnt change all that much in upcoming batches. really good and unusual IPA, nothing really like it that ive ever tried, certainly not in ontario. keep up the good work flying monkeys!///////////////////////////////////// regular bottles of this beer are inconsistent and subpar compared to the draft version. draft 4.1/5 - bottles from the LCBO 3/5 current rating score is a blend of the 2

Cask, at CíEst What Spring Festival, May 29, 2010. Cloudy orange with a minimal frothy off-white head (looks like cask all right). Smells very good - juicy and fruity citrus aroma - simply described, very much like a watered-down Black Oak Ten Bitter Years (and thatís pretty good). The taste is mild, but solid - citrus bitterness, slightly sweet tropical fruit malt, and an interesting black tea herbal/bitter character - the bitterness starts slow, builds slowly to a moderately lip-smacking level, then levels off before it approaches aggressiveness. Classic cask mouthfeel - solid body, not much carbonation (who cares), and enough dry bitterness to seem almost squeaky/astringent in the reasonably long finish; as it worked on my palate, a clear grapefruit character began to dominate, and it appealed to me quite a bit - not hugely demanding, and the flavour seemed very well suited to cask (I think it would rate lower on keg), so I say "well done" FM - a pretty sessionable IPA (I will ignore the hyperbole of the name - it was bitter, but not THAT bitter). Best beer theyíve ever made.

cask. great citrusy aroma with some floral piny hops there as well. not much malt to back this one up but the hops are balanced enough to keep it away from being to one sided. flavour is citrus with the majority leaning towards orange but with some grapefruit in there as well. mouthfeel was a tad watery, i feel like this one will be even better on tap. really nice offering. glad i got to try it.
