COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Holy Hop, Batman, this beer has aroma." Hops are casted nine different times, itís a breath-deep-and-shudder-with-pleasure kind of scent thatís all from the Citra hops. With a high alpha acid of 11%, Citra has a cacauphony of flavours and aromas --Citrus, passion fruit, grapefruit, lime, melon, lychee fruit, pineapple, mango, and papaya Ė and dominates this beer.

Smashbombs olfactory tropical explosion shockwaves your face every time you lift the meringue foam towards you. Itís like the ecru-coloured top of a beer pie before it gives up and grips the glass. You can see the Victory maltís signature in the amber lights in what is primarily a deep golden beer. And, yes, donít be fooled --thereís malt going on here, too, as youíll see in the firey body of this ale that makes Smashbomb Atomic look like it radiates its own energy.

With the first taste, Smashbombís 70 IBUs are pronounced. This brew is a little bitter, but bitter like a grapefruit with three tablespoons of sugar on top. Itís also incredibly drinkable. The oddity thatíll keep you tipping the glass is that as this citrus peel front subsides, you actually gleen the sweet flavours of the Victory and Crystal malts. Then, as the bread-puddiní bicuity sweetness of the malts are chased by the dry, tropical flavour of Citra and the fruit punch bouquet is all in your face with each sip, itís all is so damn intriguing, youíll be driven to keep on sampling...and sampling.

On tap at tequila bookworm. Hazy copper/amber. Sticks nicely to the inside of the glass. Trademark big hoppy aromas - pine, tropical fruit. Some caramel malt. Sticky. Flavors reflect the aroma, decent balance but not as strong in the mouth as in the nose. I miss that chewiness that I get from some of my favourite IPAs. Slight minerality on a medium finish. Pretty good, but not quite great for me.

I generally dont drink alot of IPA. This beer is hoppy and fruity. The colour is a beautiful reddish amber. Very little sweet in this beer even with the fruity aroma. I love the unique flavour of this beer. Flying monkey is definitely a brewery of interest.

Pours amber in colour with a thinner off-white head and clear. Aroma is predominately citrus fruit and pine. Taste is bitter and mildly sweet through the finish. Light-medium body, average carbonation and smooth mouth feel. A pretty good IPA overall.

341ml bottle. Pours a hazy golden honey colour with a light tan head. Aroma is big on pine and grapefruit, caramel, sugar syrup. Very hoppy initially with big citrus pith notes, with a little caramel sweetness peering through. Slightly one sided, but Iím not complaining. Would benefit from a little more body, and maybe a little more sweetness. Solid stuff though.

This is simply an amazing beer. Citra hops very evident but not overpowering - amazing balance for such a bold brew. Not to be missed.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2012 (Bottle from LCBO) Served at ~12 degrees in a nonic pint. Pours an amber colour with a thin head that does not last. Aromas of citrus, particularly grapefruit, and other tropical fruits. Passion fruit stands out but there is more going on, not too much pine from the hops though. On the palate there is nice hint of acidity with the grapefruit flavour and a roundedness from other fruit flavours, a bit of pine but again not too strong. Caramel malts lend some sweetness but not a malt-forward beer. Hop bitterness is fairly strong though not bracing throughout, and on the finish it dries down nicely. A bit of malt graininess in the finish too. Light to mid-weight body, over-carbonated for my taste with a bit of a soda-pop taste/sensation as a result. Very sessionable IPA.
